Ok So here is the real question for this thread: How are you guys keeping your linkies safe? I have one of these and keep roughly half on it and I live in Tuscalossa, AL. I need something safer but I don't know what it is.

hardware wallet is still the best imo. Best practice:

1) Don't tell anybody you have cryptocurrency
2) Store the recovery seed in multiple locations. Make it non-obvious what it is. Don't store it next to your wallet. For an extra level of paranoia, come up with simple encryption algorithm you can easily remember and decode by hand.
3) If you are still worried, split your stack across multiple hardware wallets. You can keep some on coinbase too.

My nano x ordered from france took 2 fucking months to arrive.
I thought it was lost in the mail so I ordered it locally, then the french one arrived the day after the local one kek.

>> No.21122494

Honestly I do think coinbase is safe and keeping 100% of your stack could potentially be justified if you don't trust yourself with a hardware wallet. Unlike the Asian exchanges if they ever got hacked then the executives would be in deep legal shit and would likely end up on the hook to compensate customers. They also probably have a lot of insurance in place at this point. Same goes for gemini

Right now I have 10% of my crypto on coinbase

Nano Ledger has never been hacked. They had their customer data hacked.

I hate both. Keeping everything in Metamask? All it takes is one malicious update to fuck your shit up.

So what can you actually do. Paper wallet. But you better never lose that piece of paper. I know a person that lost their entire house to a fire. So the question is. What. Is. Secure.

>>21122722

Damn that is a huge flaw. I kind of doubt most people would be able to get ahold of the device let alone know how to hack it. That being said its a ridiculous liability. What about the ledger? Were the recent leaks compromising to the accounts? I don't want everyone on the planet to know I have a ledger and crypto. That seems fucking terrifying too.

>> No.21123618

>>21123139

How would a malicious update screw you? Who/Why/How would someone do that? I guess I don't even know who developed Metamask. I'm really trying to figure out the best method here and it seems like splitting everything among 5 sources seems the best. Maybe use 1 exchange 1 Metamask 1 Trezor 1 Ledger and Paper wallet?

Bought my ledger x on amazon, sure amazon is full of fuckery with client data but it also has next day shipping so....

Advice for the marines / big stack hodlers. Get 1 ledger per $50k worth of linkies / shitcoin. Safer that way

>> No.21124159

my nano x arrived same day the article about their btc flaw released. was really unsettling, and shows how incompetent they are for doing nothing about it for 8 fucking months. at least i dodged the email leaks, although i wouldnt doubt somewhere every purchase address is tracked, only a matter of time until bulgarian assassin hunts my asshole

>Paper wallet
Depends
>Did you use an offline JS generator?
JS cryptography has mathematical errors and will make your security weak, on top of having to trust that the file you just downloaded hasn't been tampered to make pre-determined keys.
>Did you use electrum offline?
You're trusting your OS, a HUUUUUGE attack surface for malware and keyloggers.
>Electrum offline + Tails OS?
You're trusting Tails OS, which is known being tracked by the NSA

There's just no way of actually making a truly secure wallet.
The best you can do is split your paper wallets so you minimize the damage and even that is not a given if you used the same method for all the wallets.
