i'll give you one good piece of advice right now, which enables all other good advice you'll ever come across in the future: every strategy or idea is backtestable. you can even use computers on a lot of strategies and ideas to test lots of data and see how often it works and how often it doesn't. at a minimum you can just look at chart after chart after chart, applying some idea and seeing how well it works by hand to get a general idea at least.

don't blindly put your money into anything, always ask why it should work and then look into as many historical examples as possible and see how many lose and how many win, by how much, what reasons for a loser or winner, etc. test test test. at least backtest by hand but if possible take the time to learn the technology to backtest automatically, it'll save you a lot of time ultimately so it's worth learning.
