Convert the cash into physical gold if you want a real sense of safety. I mean this sincerely. If you keep your wealth in dollars, or even any fiat currency whatsoever, you are simply going to lose it in the medium- or long-term; possibly even the short-term. Every day that gold goes up, the purchasing-power of your currency is going down. GDX or GDXJ would give you a much greater return than gold; but if de-risking is what you want, then at least store your money in bullion. Cash is the risk right now. A banking crisis is imminent.

There is a bit of bullshit with this thinking.

If you have an investment account it's to invest and get returns on your money.

People who have a good run and then pull half out to spend on depreciating shit are not "taking profits" they are locking in depreciating losses from something giving ROI.

It's important to be specific on "taking profits". You take profit when the asset you held is no longer good returns for the risk. Not because it's gone up. Not because you have big wins.

You sell when it's been fully milked and whatever made you like the company is no longer a thing and not for any other reason.

This year more than any other should tell people to not take profits when you are in the best assets.

Of course the trick is separating the good from the bad, as in all things, but the only times I lost when following advice from /smg/, I lost just $200 in total, about as much as a single book sometimes go for, and against the gains I've made that would never have happened following those books, that's quite a vast schism. Learned by practice. Particularly the skill of rapid adaptation and properly understanding how to adapt. There aren't that many opportunities to hone those skills in an investor's lifetime but access to historical data greatly helps. Basically, it's the ability to correctly assess whether the current strategy is still working or if signs show it has broken down before you go broke, and the ability to consider the possible markets that are differentiating the current market conditions from the normal ones.
While it was fairly obvious that rotating into videogames, telehealth, biotech, tech in general, and away from retail and travel was a smart move, it was speculative by nature. Aiming for this is a valid way to adapt a sector-obese strategy. Another possibility is simply to watch what's going on and find proper support for the current directions and the overall trend. Skills involved include the ability to differentiate between a trend and a disruption, and to qualify said trend (sector? select companies? long-term? short-term?). Following this, a non-short-term strategy that's obese in tech was extremely strong during the whole current market, even if the investor did not use logic to select tech as a specific sector to invest in. The dump was also telegraphed in countless ways: shoeshine boy was in full effect in late 2019 already but really came into overdrive weeks before the dump. The events of 2018-2019 and the debt situation were clearly not helping. Corona or anything else, it was going to crash. Currently, we are getting 2019-tier signals toward a second leg down that mirror y2k investment bubble in tech right after the first leg down. Whether the signal becomes february-tier or vanishes, we'll have to see.

Speed of adapting is huge. You dont need genius ideas

Just "tech is going to be good" is enough if you have the idea on late march and go full tech. No fancy algos, no crazy research.

Smooth and clear thoughts beat everything. Refine your mental thought process and hone, hone, hone it.

A sharp smooth mind is way better than any hedgefundie on too much stimulants or talking with 10 advisors crunching satellite data and weird correlations

Also
GET OUT OF ROBINHOOD

Well, at least have robinhood and webull (if you must be on phone) robinhood is very glitchy, specially in times of high traffic/volume (when you want it to work), that plus webull actually gives you tools to measure and calculate plays. Robinhood is just a stupid line and their candles suck.

If I were you I'd put 1k a month on SOXL and just let it sit. Keep an eye on it of course, probably buy the monthly budget on dips, but it's almost guaranteed to net you a good investment.

silver and gold miners are actually doing fantastic (they're an example of the /smg/ suggestions I dipped into and made a lot of money out of -- I'm 50%-70% up across the board on them in the past 2 weeks). PM suppliers also report insufficient supplies, and china's fake gold is probably not fully priced in yet. All in all I am still bullish on junior miners, but only if hand-picked. I would never put a large allocation on them, and that's probably a really silly take, but I just don't trust them at all.
I don't think there's a tech selloff, I think investors are preparing for the upcoming pullback (most companies are far above any reasonable stdev with a very recent outsize move past them, which usually results in strong moves back toward the mean. This can be observed on the vwma 200. There's also uncertainty about the stimulus. My take is that no stimulus is super-bullish for tech, and stimulus not so much. If we have no stimulus, the upswing could be violent enough to hit the 2stdev and stay near that level for a while. If we do have a stimulus for long enough, and there's good news about vaccine/reopening prospects, there will be rotation away from tech and into the financial sector first and foremost, with travel and hotels being seconds in my opinion. Third would be restaurants.
However, I don't like trying to predict sentiments like that. It's much easier to get in when sentiments are solid than trying to predict sentiment in advance.

>is webull that much better
Depends on how you trade. If you're looking to set it and forget it then robinhood is perfect for that. I have ADHD so I love fidgeting with graphs and lines and indicators, jumping from one stock to the next managing 3+ stocks on my phone while taking a shit on my 15m break at work. Kek. Webull is perfect for an active trader (pic related). One thing I didn't like about webull starting out though was the UI, it's very confusing and convoluted, not very straight forward. It works great once you know where things are and what buttons do what.

I do use both though, you're much more versatile that way. My long term holds I put on robinhood.

On the pic btw I have 3 different indicators (RSI, MACD, AO), the graph (with actually useful candles), SMA lines (customizeable), the price. The analysis tab is 10000x better than robinhood's and so it's their news tab.

In fact, expect massive civil unrest regardless. One think tank wargamed the election and one of the scenarios they ended up with involved California trying to leave the union.

Remember, we won't know the winner for weeks after the election. Trump will spend those weeks FUDding, Biden will spend them whipping up black mobs.

>Because Trump has shown an utter failure of crisis leadership on the scale of Herbet Hoover
According to what numbers? He didn't even drop under 40% average approval and is already climbing back to 44%. 44% approval during mass unemployment and the Corona shit? That's shockingly good. Stop looking at mass media and their portrayal of this shit, look at the numbers, Trump is more popular now than he was half of 2019 as an example. I don't want to call an election this early, but the clear winner will be after the first debate.
Also, there's a syndrome called something that I can't remember now. But it's basically that people will rally to their leader during a country-wide crisis even though they don't agree with them politically, they won't let their country get trashed on the world stage. You saw this in Sweden where the social democrats gained support even though they handled Corona like garbage and ended up having like 100x the death rate of their neighbors... but that didn't matter to the people. The same thing is happening in america now and you want to know the best part? If the country is recovering from here, then it's already GG.

>> No.21045122

>>21045024
The rally to the flag effect hasn't really been a thing for Trump because everyone who identifies as a Democrat has an ideological imperative to hate him, and moderates are unhappy with his handling of the virus. The 44% that approve of him are mostly Republican base voters. Which is fine, it's good to get the to turn out; but Trump's victory in 2016 was predicated on undecided voters going massively for Trump after the Comey letter (if you listen to the media) or after Clinton collapsed in a van (if you listen to the internet).

Is anything possible still? Absolutely, I wouldn't put less than 25% odds on either President Pence or President Rice. Coronavirus could easily kill Biden or Trump, senile septuagenarians are pretty much the bread and butter of death statistics.
