Yup, was a belt technician for a while working on conveyors and portables in various mines in the southwest. The contracting company was dogshit. On top of an already incredibly dangerous job in the first place. No one communicated or trusted each other, the supers all hated each other and berated the underlings. Was thrown to the wolves trainingwise...yeah it was a shitshow.

Heard later on there were some serious accidents due to negligence. Limbs lost. Not surprised. Hint: they're based out of Portland. Scumbags.

Did however give me a YUUUUGEE appreciation of what it takes to get PM product into the hands of the retailer. When companies can do it right, it's amazing. Wrong, and God help you.

Apparently I was supposed to be thankful for the opportunity to work nights and weekends for barely over minimum wage (college degree required) . During college back in 2012 I had this cushy office job at a biotech startup over the summer. Really chill, had my own office and everything. Work load was insanely light too, so there would be days or even weeks that would go by where I basically have to do nothing at all, or just whip up a document in 30 minutes even though I'm given days to complete it.

Ended up spending a ton of time watching anime on my computer, or playing pokemon romhacks or doom wads. Also went down a rabbit hole watching documentaries on youtube. Started with basic shit like ron paul lolbertarianism to docs on who controls the money to eventually full-on watching stuff on the JQ. This was back before youtube took down literally everything that wasn't 100% kosher approved.

Never got in trouble for it. It was a small place though, and there was just this one dude in charge of IT. I'm pretty sure he knew what I was up to.

got fired from a shitty start-up/sales type gig when COVID work from home first started. i spent my first 3 weeks "working" from home by having my phone auto-dial the national weather service to keep my call numbers up while i watched jewtube and played video games. i honestly hated that job and was happy to scam a few extra weeks pay doing literally nothing. was let go pretty quickly after they caught on lol.

got a better job that i actually enjoy 3 weeks later. the wage cage is real but i've been blessed to have 3 years salary in crypto gains so i will never work another job i dont like again. all sf startups can get fucked

My current job I've been working from home, and I'm entry level into the IT world, so it's been a learning experience. I give my boss a lot of lee-way when he gets pissy, but he tried blaming me for some shit, quickly remembered it was HIS fault, and then tried to carry on the conversation as though nothing happened.

I cut him off mid-conversation and told him that he should apologize it. He got pissed and hung up. Called me back 5 minutes later to apologize. Now he kisses my ass everytime we talk. I think he knows he's not paying me enough and that I'll be leaving in the next few months.

Its a really different experience here with jobs. retail places want you to have open avaliability and also have a flexible schedule. But at the same time they never give you more than 14~20 hours. You're lucky if you get 25 hours.

It still fucks me up that I was 22 years old and it took me 2 months to save 2k and my only expenses were bus fare and buying groceries. Before then back in 2015 it took me 8+ months to save up that much working temp jobs because I owed the bursar office money. I would refuse the bus and walk home just to save $2, it was fucking rough.
Experincing something like that where it takes you months to put together what most people have to put together in rent fucks up your psych. To this day I'm still crabby with money because I never know where my next bit of income is coming from. I busted my ass through my Electrical Engineering degree. Meanwhile my peers all drove $30k cars and had jobs making $25/hr without college degrees. They were moving up to jobs making 70k+

And the only people calling me back are staffing agencies. They tell me my expectations of 60k are too high. $20/hr is all they will offer. Even when I accept they don't ever call me back...
