I think that government of Canada has sold themselves out completely to the banking elite. They government does not see itself as an individual nation but just an administrative zone of some larger post national structure and therefore does not need gold reserves.

What concerns me is that the country is so divided against rural urban now that nationalization of heavy industry work such as mining would cause massive revolts across the country. If the government went and called dibs on the mines, they would than have to also get the suppliers and support infrastructure industries as well. Its so hard to even describe how many different jobs are tied to mining that this concept would effect.
