ETH mooning WILL pull STA up along with it. There's a balancer pool of 50% ETH, 20% STA, 10% each of LINK BTC SNX. Pool has like 180k of buying power right now so it has 180k of all those assets spread across those percentages. As ETH goes up the pool has to sell it and buy more STA to keep the balance.
As STA goes up we keep throwing in more money from profits so the pool has more buying power, but you don't have to do that part if you don't want.
That is primarily why I am in.
However, you can even only pool if you want and not even buy. The burn function on the token is not a gimmick. If you park your ETH in the balancer pool you're going to increase value bc fees from all the re-balancing go to you and the burn function has been shown to increase all of the activity. If you just made the exact pool with something else it would underperform the STA one.
