I can definitely see now why Anons laud the superior ability of gold to store value in a tiny volume and weight.

This bar is so very tiny. I feel like I could have forty of them in the bottom of a bag, that’s worth well over 20,000 dollars, and move wealth around so easily without anyone knowing or noticing.

ERIC SPROTT YOU FAT BASTARD

WE WERE ALL SUPPOSED TO BE IN THIS TOGETHER

>> No.20641403

Seems like a slightly down day and evening has slowed this thread down.... Perfect time to discuss something that some may think anathema: selling.

Something that many who own precious metals, especially ones with high price volatility like silver, should do is create a plan for selling. This means determining a price at which you'll sell, how much you'll sell, what you'll sell, and to whom you'll sell it. This is important because if there is a bubble that provides massive gains, you'll want to sell to lock in at least some of your gains.

I'll talk about silver since I screwed up and didn't sell in 2011 and have had a "dead" asset for about a decade. To start off on the idea of selling, it's important to know without much time or effort what you want to sell. If you have silver in multiple forms: bars, rounds, and coins of all types, you should consider selling first the silver for which you paid the highest price per troy ounce. This will minimize your capital gains taxes, which could put you in an actual money losing situation if silver subsequently crashes in price. You reaped some capital gains and paid capital gains taxes but if the price falls enough, your net profit when it's all said and done is negative.

What I have done is create a spreadsheet of what I'm going to sell and how much I intend to sell at each price point. Look back at 2011 and realize that $48/oz silver did not last very long at all. Don't get into a situation where you have paralysis by analysis. Have an exit plan.

As others have said goldbacks are mostly a meme due to the premiums. However if i place a large several hundred dollar silver order I will normally throw in five one goldback notes (roughly $35 worth) just for fun. At that point what does an extra $35 hurt right? I typically buy the one or 5 goldback notes because the premiums are a little more managable then the larger notes. I ain't paying $180 for one of those things.

Lately I have taken to carrying a goldback in my wallet to see how it really holds up. So far so good but it has only been a week. Pic related.

I like those too, but here I have limited choice when it comes to gold.

I don’t mind importing silver when I want a piece from the US or Europe or whatever, but gold is just too expensive for that to seem practical or safe (yeah I can have items sent with tracking, but I have to pay for that, also consider insurance, customs etc.)

>> No.20641656

And I do want a 1oz coin eventually, but to get one I’d have to save for another two months. I feel better about having another 1/3oz now, rather than waiting that long when there’s a real chance spot goes up significantly. If I already had more than 1oz of gold already, I would either wait to have enough money to buy non-fractional OR just buy silver.

But because I only had 2/10oz before getting this, I wanted to get this and bring myself within striking distance of an ounce (roughly 1/2 oz now).

I’d hate to wait a few months and find the spot/oz has gone up to $2,000 or something in the meantime.

Personally i don't plan to sell any physical, i transformed in uncle McScrouge and can't live without rubbing my stack on a daily basis. And for anybody wanting to sell fast and with minimum fees to profit from a bullrun, they should immediately disregard physical : ETFs are a much more convenient alternative.

That said, physical can also have it's advantages, for example to dodge paying taxes, which you can't with SLV or GLD, or to sell during a physical global shortage, like we had in april. I remember seeing ASEs, maples and phillys selling well above 30 bux on a daily on ebay when stores were all out of stocks. While selling SLV shares would have payed a meager $14-15.

Now that's something i can get behind fren! We shouldn't wait for traitors (read gubment) to serve us, they only serve their own interest, i.e. how to grab always more power. Like any other lifeform, they'll do anything to grow stronger and thrive. At any cost.

And that's exactly what we are doing by having physical stacks : we are making a change. I'm convinced a stacker autismo army is more a threat to the banksters' hegemony than a real army.

There is no guarantee that any of us will sell silver in the future since we don't know what the future holds. If paper currencies totally eat it, then it's doubtful I will sell my silver. However, there may be other assets in the future that are more attractive than silver and it would be worthwhile to take advantage of good silver prices to alter one's asset allocation.

Again, not everyone may be interested in such a thing but for those with a lot of silver, it's something to be prepared for. Taking as an example 2011, I could have sold at least some of my silver for over $40/ounce and put it into other investment opportunities I had. Almost 9 years since silver hit $48/ounce, it's still less than 50% that price. That's a tremendous opportunity cost for holding silver. I could have sold, invested the proceeds, and actually bought back the silver if I wanted to after my other investments ran their course.

Just a thought for those still in the accumulation phase. Take a look at the long term price of silver. It's going up in very long, multi-decade cycles but in shorter cycles, it is highly volatile and you could spend a decade of your life with no gains. As Keynes said, "In the long run, we're all dead." Meaning, if silver takes too long to give you a good return before you die of old age, it wasn't such a hot investment. It's purchasing power protection will, in all likelihood, be better than money in a bank but for those seeking capital gains in excess of the "risk-free" rates, one must have a plan of action if a selling opportunity arises.

I think you have trouble reading charts mate. Platinum was in a bubble that popped during 2008 crisis + was sold like gold and silver to bust liquidity of failed long positions on stock and housing markets. Notice how silver, gold and platinum all dipped and v shape recovered in exact same period of time. It had nothing to do with industrial use, people buy platinum and other pms during crisis as a hedge.
Money flowing away from equities has to go somwhere.

Okay. This is some crazy shit. But it starts with silver, and ends in a literal paradise above a burning earth. I don't think we can save it easily anymore, there's just been too much damage. So we need to go up.
We'll start at the end, of course, because that's the way the universe accepts input. Our target will be 70 years out: the year 2090. Our goal will be to all be living in a silver tower, high in the sky, overlooking a burning earth.
One thing we will do in order to create this future will be to fixate on a particular sell point. We might not make it to this point, but since we're aiming for the stars, we'll get pretty close. I'm thinking a 1:3 gold:silver ratio. It's crazy. But it's all possible.

My concern there is that we know the EU was accumulating gold, and spreading it out among European nations so that a return to real gold money would be equitable between their member states. See this article:

If the EU goes digi-gold, and the Russians aren't too far behind, I can't help but think the silver standard is far behind, particularly since we were opposed to the gold stacking of the EU since 1975.

The wheels really fell off platinum in Q3 2015 when the diesel emissions fraud hit. That has caused a multiyear decline in the number of diesel engine cars manufactured and platinum was used in the catalytic converters of those cars.

I'm a bit surprised that manufacturers of ICE engines are sticking with palladium for their catalytic converters despite its persistently high price. I would have thought that they would have switched at least some of their output to using to platinum.

Platinum is still cheap though relative to other precious metals and their historical price ratios.

counting digital ledgers theres about $100,000,000,000,000 US in circulation

so assuming a 1:1 ratio of dollars to silver the US would need to print about $100 trillion to take silver to $40 per ounce.

in real life the amount of US dollars has little to do with the cost of silver so it's probably far more or less based on a lot of other factors.

Creditors will be fucked. Debt in hyperinflated society is melted away, which comes with its own massive set of problems. Looks like this:

Hyperinflation raises prices exponentially on food and other necessary goods -> real estate, cars, etc do not follow in the same way -> helicopter money rains on the populace to keep them from literally hanging every banker and politician they can get their hands on -> people can pay their $50,000 car debt with the $100,000 a week they get in helicopter money

Venezuela is our most recent good example. Eventually the government will tax land so heavily they will start repossessing it and selling back for shit that actually has value (PMs)

There are 9/30 Calls available for $1.30 x 100 at $22.50. Break even would be SLV at $23.80 on or before 9/30. Would I be crazy to take this as my first? I only plan to buy one so I'd be risking only $130, but the conservative investor in me says just throw that$130 in SILJ instead so it's at least worth something rather than possibly going to zero.

Personally I bought SLV calls for Jan 2022. If SLV goes up 1% my calls go up about 4%.

The closer in time the call is, the more money you will make if you are right, but the riskier it is and the faster you will lose money if you are wrong. You can make a pile of money on calls that are 1 week away, but I have alsoo been burned buying calls 2 months when the market dropped 5% and then crabbed.

This time I went super far out, since I'm planning to be holding these for when silver REALLY moons. I don't know when that will be, but I am expecting it within the next year.

Honestly, you have to start somewhere to get a feel for how options really work and play out. If you can afford it as an alternative, I would suggest a $20 Nov 20 call for your first option - November will carry you past the US election which could be a huge opportunity event if the market doesn't go crazy before that, and buying $20 is going to cost more up front but have much lower risk of going to $0 I think. Just my thoughts; there's no true right or wrong answer here.

>> No.20648461

There's different ways of looking at it. I own about $3k of physical, but I have $30k of paper including a little bit of forbiddin SLV calls. Depending on how close to midnight we are on the doomsday clock, I will sell paper and buy physical.

If there is a true economic collapse / hyperinflation, then it's possible that holding paper will be literally worthless, even paper like PHYS or PSLV. In that scenario the only thing you want to be holding is physical metal. Even worse, if you are late to the party there won't be any physical metal available to be bought long before the collapse happens, so you need to buy it now while stock even exists. So say the doomsayers.

If there is a "partial" collapse (great depression) / 1970s event with high inflation but not hyperinflation, the paper markets will survive and holding paper metal will be just fine, and you will still be able to exchange it for other goods/services as needed. In this case holding PHYS/PSLV or maybe even SLV and options will be fine and possibly even superior to physical as the market is easier to access and more liquid.

Best of luck fren, may we all make it. For every $1 SLV moves you should make about $75 (not accounting for Theta decay). I hope we both get rich.

I just got some maples yesterday and was surprised they don't sound super upbeat. I've been thinking about getting brittania's or asahi rounds, do those have a nice sound to them?

the modern .999 britannias sound good, although not as good as the older .958 britannias (i have a couple 2011's), which absolutely sing.

This is really good advice. There are many such cryptofags who held through all the pumps and went from millionaires to Honda civic tier because they never sold.

Interesting thanks, I'll keep that in mind for my next purchase. I would like to get a couple fondling/pocket coins to have seperate from my regular stack - something that just looks nice and sounds nice. I'm guessing the maples are a little too thick and it dampens the sound.

How do coin shops report your sale to the feds? Do they fucking ask for your ID? And how much can I sell to them without them reporting? 10oz, 100oz, 1000oz?

So guys I have 800 more to spend on metals and about 40oz of silver at the moment. Do I dump the rest of the 800 in to silver or do I mix it up and buy a few grams of gold along with silver?
What do you think my precious metal bros?

i think the /pmg/ census is to buy the cheapest silver bullion you can find and don't fuck with gold fractionals smaller than 1/4 oz

sometimes i see 1/4 oz gold at a premium that isn't completely ridiculous, but when you get down to the gram level, the premiums are very high. stick with 1-2 oz silver coins for that level of buying.

This is kind of why I don't speculate with physical PMs. What I have is not an "asset" as much as it is an insurance policy against high inflation. It's savings, not investment, at least in my mind. My speculation is in crypto and silver and gold miners stocks. That's where I want to see returns. I think speculation goes better with low transaction costs. I'm not saying don't speculate in physical, but it's costly. Also, with my physical, it is never a "dead asset" to me. I don't care what the spot price says. It could say $1, and I'd be just as happy. I don't expect it to "work for me" except in the extreme situations for which it provides me "insurance".

Yeah I just bulled the trigger on 20 more silver krugerrands. Which will put me at 60oz. At least they are a physical asset that I can hold in my hand.
Given how crazy things are going I don't trust paper investments at the moment.

I think they are really nice to look at. Been thinking of picking up a few just as collector's item. Nothing does it for me more than 90% silver and 90% gold coinage clinking, but these would also be cool to have a few of. I'm not sure I could justify the higher denomination ones, but the $1 and $5 ones would be worth it to me to have a few for fun.

I know people prefer 24k/.9999, but to me it's not practical. Gold is a really soft metal and you can scratch dent it easily. To me, it's no fun if I can't take it out and handle it and hear it clink. So I actually prefer gold (and silver) coinage that was meant for circulation, so it's an alloy. AGE's are 22K so they are more durable. I actually prefer the 20 Franc coins, and really like the Swiss Misses. I can clank them around and not worry about it and there's a historical aspect to them that people actually used this as money and not just to stack. Premiums are lower too, as far as fractional goes. Pic related came yesterday.
