Say for the sake of simplicity before that you had 100Ampl
That means at 10PM of that day you will have lost 50Ampl.
Which is a loss of $50. Thats huge, yes, but you could buy back the 50Ampls lost with $25.
So you lose $75 just to keep it back at $100 making a grand total of $175 lost just to hold 100Ampl which are supposed to be worth $1 each or $100 the whole bunch.

But that way of thinking doesn't consider you are actually buying a percentage of the market cap that will stay constant. So for a market cap of $1M, those 100Ampl represent 0.01% or 0.0001 parts of the total MC.

Lets say after that negative rebase you got burnt and angry with crypto and now you dont care enough about AMPL to even cash out the 100 you have, so you leave it there in the wallet.
After about a year or so, the MC went up to say $10B, news start appearing about how its set to overtake Tether. You remember you had 100Ampl in a wallet from earlier that year and when you check you are the rightful owner of 0.0001 parts of $10B, that is $1 000 000.
