It's just a fund that's traded like a stock. One ETF share is really dozens to hundreds of fractional shares (for example $VOO as the S&P500 equivalent).

Nothing really wrong with them and they've been successful for decades, but it's not going to get you wealthy. It's stocks for people too scared to have meaningful risk, but not so scared that they'd dump it into a 1% yield bond.
