Can watches be a viable form of investment?

pic related (rolex, a watch for winners in life) is around $30000 now. It was $500 in the 1970s and nobody even wanted it.

fake rolex is probably an even better investment. Very low entry cost, good margin if you can find buyers.

Why would I ever spend that amount of money on something that isn’t as good at keeping time as a $5 digital watch. Completely ignoring the fact that wristwatches are useless in the modern age and also the existence of Chinese industry makes status symbols obsolete. Why not spend the money on some psychiatric help so you can learn to stop worrying about what other people think of you and be happy.

Can home made watches be a viable form of investment?

Pic related (Chrononumitron 6000, a watch for winners in life) is around $100 in parts now. It was $100 in 2020 and nobody even wanted it.

Why would anyone buy this? Forget being useless, we all know these luxury items are meant as status tokens and every other reason for owning them is just plausible deniability. What I mean is that watches are so fucking worthless in the first place that you could easily get a fake one to the same effect and nobody would notice.

The problem with high ticket items is you somewhat limit yourself demographic of wealthy people

If they don't want to buy.. who else are you going to find?

Why? People love it. They always stop me and ask tons of questions about it. I would bet if I wore this and then some high end luxury watch more people would be interested in this than any other high end watch.

In direct sunlight outside on a summer day I can make out the numbers from my wrist extended. If you were to see it from a distance in the same conditions you couldn't make out the time.

but then you'd actually have to put in work.

this is as simple as buying a rolex and seeing its value appreciate into the stratosphere over time.

I'm not saying it's ugly, it certainly is unique and quirky, but i don't want it to get smahes when i move a box or when passing through a crowd of people, also sometimes i have to count the seconds.

people would notice, but only hardcore watch autists

The roll cage is for protecting it. The brass tubing around it prevents scuffs and scrapes. I usually only wear it out to a few places where I know I'm not going to be doing any physical activity.

The , marks are used to count the seconds. The one minute tube is from 1-15, 10 minute tube is 15-30, etc.
