Before you buy anything, make a brokerage account and read investopedia articles and/or the books in the OP list. If you don't have a broker, you can't buy stocks and if you blindly buy things without understanding how the stock market works or doing any research on the individual stocks you're buying, you will lose money and it will be entirely your fault.

Buy the FB dip. All of these companies pulling advertising were going to cut ad spending for a month anyway and are just taking this opportunity to score social justice points. When they turn the ad money faucet back on, FB will moon.

No one I know seems to care about covid, regardless of age. Everyone assumes that everyone else cares, but when you get them in a corner with a cocktail they all admit they think it's basically bullshit. Not fake, but just not very dangerous when compared to the hype and societal impact. These include people in their 70's, some with COPD etc. I think the panic we see in the media (including social media) has decoupled from what real everyday people actually believe in their heart of hearts. If I didn't know any better I'd say it's the most successful gaslighting campaign in recent history.

In my part of the country, I'm seeing a lot more people outdoors enjoying themselves, and of course there are scenes of sunbathers in Central Park, NY and the beaches of Southern California, etc. trying to make the best of the season. Businesses are going to remain necessarily hesitant amid rising infections, and frankly I don't blame them. I don't think this is airborne Ebola and I'm willing to acknowledge the conflict of interest between diagnostics and hospital funding, but the chilling effect on the market isn't unreasonable.

Ironically, a huge spike in infections with minimal change to the death count might shine more light on the notion that the mortality rate isn't actually absurdly high. And the increases are presently confined to a few states, even though a lot are well into their reopening plans.

But we still need more information. Where this new uptrend goes, whether deaths/hospitalizations follow, and so on. I would really hate to see heavy-handed closure measures again, as would a lot of us, but I'm out of the market as of EOD Thursday so the effects won't be as close to home this time.

>a huge spike in infections with minimal change to the death count
I think we'll see some increase in death count but I predict it won't be proportional as compared with the initial spike. However I also predict that the media will basically ignore this fact, and will actually do everything they can to make any increase in deaths seem like Armageddon. So while the news should be good, it will be used to stoke more fear. I'm not sure how the market will react to this however, because the truth is that fear matters. Even when it's overblown or irrational it still affects the way people behave. So I'm not particularly bullish or bearish right now, and if this significant increase in cases does not lead to a significant increase in deaths I won't necessarily become bullish. I think there will need to be additional other optimistic news such as new treatments that become actual standard of care not merely yet another clinical trial, or some kind of very optimistic news about vaccines. The reduction in lethality alone just isn't enough with the headwind of immediate determined to induce panic.

At this point, the economic policy is what matters. If more states initiate cautionary reversals to their reopening plans or restart the shutdowns, game over. If the deaths increase, but governors hold the line and maintain their commitment to reopening, the market might climb in spite of it. Stocks drop with negative pandemic news because it conjures the horrible specter of shutdown again. If we get to a point where the nation collectively says, "You know, we're just going to have to live with it at this point; let's just reopen everything", we'll probably see big market moves upward again.

Travel and hospitality industries are still in for a rough Q3 and Q4. People are okay going outside now, but not necessarily traveling. However, if restaurants opened up completely, I'd probably go out dining a lot more, and I expect the same of other young people.

Whatever. We'll just have to see.

Put more money in, and took no gains out.
I only have a few hundred in inverse plays, it’s not going to mean squat.

Bought more SOXL and AMD and a lot more KO but their charts just flashed warning signals.

And most of my holds also flashed warning signals, some even flashed short signals, including that KO and AMD I just bought more of. And my long time holds that make up a big chunk of my portfolios also hit the short-sell list: JNJ, MRK, LMT. And some others just went on the avoid list: COST & PEP.

I have a cash position but not enough when 2800 is on the menu, and the technicals on most of my positions say GET OUT. Other than that though things are OK!

I want to get it as low as possible seeing as we have no idea if it will even work or not or if they are on to something. Great potential but also riding on little to nothing but hope. Almost dropped 8k today when it was like at 8.06, but got cold feet.

I personally think tech is very overpriced, I'm looking into companies that will benefit from inflation in the long term, all those trillions being printed are going to be felt as they work their way through the system.

A lot of people on this board don't have much cash, so they throw things in speculative stocks in the hopes that they will get enough money to be able to make safe investments that will actually return something, that or they are just being greedy.

thanks for your input. I wouldn't say I have a lot of money, but with my tax advantaged accounts maxed out, I'm starting to think of just going more on the safe side with my standard brokerage account. Why put expess money away in a savings account when there are (or tend to be) better returns with the market? I've gained and lost and gained and lost some more with options and I just don't have the mental stamina for it. I don't know how to recover a situation /smg/. Because of the nature of this story I'm sure I'll just get "nice larp" responses but I'll try anyways.
>I'm semi-rich new money from poor background
>wise to gold diggers, only reveal power level after a few dates
>consistent gold digger reactions from "normal" women on reveal
>been dating this one woman for a while now, she's very nice, atypical second generation immigrant, respectful to her parents, hardworking, absolutely dirt poor, helps out in their tiny restaurant where I first met her
>have been having good dates, talking about interesting things rather than the usual tawdry stuff about career
>she's been seeming a little awkward this night but still pleasant to be around, we're just hanging out on a park bench after dinner
>she's gotten a little drunk, more than usual and started making more personal conversation while leaning on my shoulder, it's nice
>I know all about her job of course so she asks about mine, I start carefully telling her about my early career and how I tried my hand at running a business
>so far so good, no gold digger tells
>she asks how it went, I say okay actually, she asks jokingly asks if I'm a rich man in disguise
>show her my portfolio rather than beat around the bush anymore, I don't want to be outright deceptive
>feel her jump against me, after a few seconds she gets up and runs
>I'm stunned but as she's running I realized she both peed and shat herself on the bench
Poor girl had never seen six digits, or probably even five, in her entire life, and I went and unknowingly shocked her into disgracing herself. I'm guessing she was probably feeling sick earlier in the night and got drunk on top of that. I texted her right away but didn't know what to say so I just suggested a day for another date. No response so I texted again a few days later, just a "what's up?", no response.
I really like her and she's not a gold digger, but she's delicate and surely mortified. How do I repair this?

It’s hard to trust riding the hype through the weekend when people don’t even know if it works or if they are onto something that can work. I think it could gain momentum this coming week but I don’t think we will miss out on cash not having bought before the weekend. If we really wanted to make cash we would all agree to buy it at the low Monday and to just pump it and ride the wave then dump if.

I ran their numbers buly a geologist friend of mine and he said as long as they are accurate it looks alright, although he said as someone who does those feasibility reports they can sometimes be over hyped. 1425 GMT - Downbeat results from tests of a cancer vaccine based on an unproven technology cast doubt over the chances of using that approach to develop coronavirus vaccines, says HSBC. The bank says data from trials of BNT-122, which uses mRNA technology and was developed by BioNTech and partner Roche Holding, showed what HSBC described as 'clearly disappointing' patient responses. HSBC says the results suggest mRNA-based vaccines may not be as immunogenic as hoped. BioNTech and partner Pfizer, as well as Moderna Inc., are developing Covid-19 vaccines based on mRNA approaches. "The failure of BNT-122 should provide pause for thought on the prospects for mRNA approaches in vaccination for COVID-19 and other diseases," HSBC analyst Steve McGarry says. ([email protected])

Maybe it just speaks to my infatuation with her, but though I was alarmed and crestfallen, I also found it somewhat, well, you know, arousing. >>19965760
I guess I'm not self-respecting, anyways. Is anyone who posts on 4chan? Respect seems like such a meme, especially for someone you already know as well as yourself. I don't have any real friends, I never got along with anyone in school or shared their interests and it irritated me the way they always prioritized their immediate emotions above everything and everyone around them.
I don't know, maybe I'm not cut out for seeking happiness. I'm not bragging about anything, I'm not even a good trader, I'm too dumb to really play options well and mostly just buy dividend stocks suggested by people like that one guy with the chart of them. I only got my balance consulting for companies and developing niche parts for them, and most of that wasn't even me having special knowledge, just being willing to sign NDAs and not retain rights. I don't think I've ever done anything truly useful or significantly clever. I just like this girl and I don't want to lose touch with her over something trivial and stupid.
>>19965811
Yeah. I mean she was asking about it but I should have played it cool rather than trying to surprise her. Not that I should have known, but still, my fault primarily here. I just don't want to intrude on her when she doesn't seem to want to talk to me and if I'm being honest I'm scared that I'll show up and her mom will be there at the counter and just say "go 'way she not want to see you!" and shoo me away without me even setting foot in her apartment upstairs. I just want to be happy but I feel like giving up and slipping into my comfortable loneliness, too. I'm not very good with people.

She is rightfully embarrassed by pissing and shitting herself and it was likely one of the worst nights of her life for that reason. Going forward it may always be baggage in the relationship so you want to consider if it's still worth pursuing her. If so, don't ever bring up the pissing and shitting part and let her have the illusion that maybe you didn't notice and that she only just suddenly ran off. Give her two weeks from the event to cool off and text her something like "I'm going to stop by the store later tonight(or at a specific time), I hope that we can talk for a few minutes" or something. Don't worry about her parents interfering, you don't really have anything to lose. I wouldn't be that apologetic because that may only make her more embarrassed, just move on and try to set up another date. She probably wants to get over this as much as you do.

Feeling pretty good. Rode the workhorse train all week, cashed out a few calls (Hope I don't regret that later) and made my first real profit since I started a few weeks ago. Thanks /biz/ bros for all the help.

Okay, thanks for the advice anon. I'm not good with deception, I always get flushed and can't make eye contact, but I'll try to practice beforehand with just a simple conversation line about can we meet up again, sorry to spring that on you all at once, like I think she's just shocked or offset by me not being who she thought I was, or something like that? Does that sound good? I'm not sure if she'll be able to convince herself I didn't notice, she left a little puddle on the bench and against my leg, but I doubt she wants to bring it up either way.
Thanks for taking the time, hopefully it will go alright.

No problem. There is no need to be deceptive, I would just say that I was sorry to have sprung that on her and then move on to another subject. Also I think "I'm going to stop by the restaurant tomorrow at around (specific time), I hope that we can talk for a few minutes" would be better as the extra day would give her time to prepare. If she isn't there, try her apartment and if she still doesn't want to see you, just let it go.

Regarding if you're too good for her, that isn't for me to decide but regardless of the woman you should never get married unless you decide to have kids and always get a prenup agreement. How much money you have is personal and it's not deceptive to keep that information to yourself.

>> No.19966835

>>19966792
Why should you never get married without kids? I have a girlfriend that knows I never want kids (I'm not the guy you were replying to I'm just curious)and she knows we will have a prenup and she wants a wedding and the dress and the experience? Why wouldnt I give that to a woman that is willing to compromise with me on every other level?

>> No.19966904

>>19966835
It's pointless, it's like the Stanhope joke, 'if marriage didn't exist, would you invent it? Would you ever think that this shit is so good that we have to get the government in on it? That you would have to financially attach yourself together to show your love?' You have everything to lose from it and nothing to gain, marriage often breeds complacency and resentment. Prenups often get thrown out in court depending on where you live so that is yet another thing hanging over your head. If you feel like you have to get married for the relationship to work, that's on you, but men who have the option shouldn't get legally married.

>> No.19966916

I live just outside of DC, my prenup will stand just fine. I dont want kids, she is fine with that and wants to build a life together. I'm gonna give her the dumb 1 time party and ceremony she wants to keep her from screaming about it for 40 years. I can afford it and the mental health of a quiet home with a woman that wont betray me is worth the cost, sometimes buying the bauble is worth it
