I work at amazon and actually enjoy it. Management likes me cus I’m the hardest worker so they’re putting me on the safety committee. Once I convert to a blue badge I’m going to sign up for the away team where essentially, they fly you out to a new amazon location that just opened somewhere in the country and pay for your flight, hotel, and rental car. It’s $15 an hour but I do voiceovers on the side which helps too. Amazon isn’t that bad compared to other warehouse jobs.

First of all, we're on a shitty anonymous image board that most people never go to, implying that we've all been using computers for a while.

Second, and most importantly, we're on a specific board on 4chan that is dedicated to understanding emerging technology that is yet to be realized by the rest of the world.
Understanding blockchain, smart contracts, decentralized finance, decentralized oracles, etc.. requires at least a reasonable understanding of technology. It's not surprising to me that the majority of /biz/ has careers in tech

If you can actually make a dashboard w/ DAX, 150k+ magician mage, you'll make leadership sing and dance, you'll have FPA, finance on your back going "good job anon" and you have 0% of financial liability or mis goings as long as you make the numbers right and portray positive forcast and runway numbers.

Risk Mitigation is key, knowing GAAP helps, but literally, yes. If you can combine an automated pipeline to power those dashboards (*e.g. CSV > SPO sql db > BI dashboard) so it's "live" data at 15/30/60 min polling, you have a cozy af job, just break it a few times on purpose so you can have your dick stroked.

Maybe, but i just got hired on 6 months ago straight out of college with 0 enterprise security experience.

Would love to get into the Incident Response team at some point, but as it stands currently I mostly just build out dashboards and optimize Splunk searches for the rest of the team

I don't feel underpaid, my work is extremely easy, but i'm sure if i tried harder I could grab a better job, not too worried about it though because I live rent free at the moment and have fat stacks of crypto. Don't give up, decrease expectations and try to get an intern hired.

You're in a "Trap", it's where you care too much and you shouldn't, but everyone now trust/depends on you.

this is the time where you call in benefits, PTO, vacation, etc, if you're really risky, say you have another offer and try to get a raise but it depends solely on your org. In Tech, it's okay, but for smaller firms, they'll think you're a traitor.

You also should start saying "no." befriend a exec, or good manager. Try to avoid middle managers, but if you have one you really trust, create busywork, tie it up on your Outlook and make tasks "take longer."

Everyone will assume it's because the said task is harder, more complicated and then with "covid19" it's fully expected.

Don't burn yourself out bro, you're in a good position, you're comfy, now what else are you lacking in life? Go seek that? Pretti girl? Pretti boy? Investment vehicles?

Or you can do what I did, get another "job" and become a consultancy. Read the $100 entrepreneur , it's mostly bullshit and motivational words but - for someone in your position, you'll relate.

I know, because I did.

100% right. i don't even care about the work itself, but i'm stressed by not wanting to disappoint those who have treated me well and are now relying on me. i tried saying "no" and it worked for a short time, but the leader of my org (~2500 people) has me on his short-list too, and goes past my boss directly to me so it's tough to turn down requests because i dont want her to look bad.

i'll take a peak at the book and thanks for the tips. you've got me nailed.

Welcome, anon, to the spirtual, mindfulness of what is adulthood.

The work gets easier, but the relationships don't.

--

For everyone else, the three books I mentioned are self help books that will help get you in the right state of mind to develop yourself, to see what rules the "system" has in place and how to either embrace or take advantage of them for your gain.

Life, is a game of resources. Time, is one of them. You have an excess of them since you're on here. Many people don't have time, and much more don't have money and time.

You can pull yourself out and achieve whatever you want. Life is a game, you set the ending and your own goals. Accomplish them to feel good.

Yes that means if you want to make money, you can make money. The skills/work you do have little on how much you make per se how you look for the opportunity.

You know you're in a good spot when you have to keep saying "no."

Thanks for this advice. I'm currently at the $75k lol data scientist level for a state agency. Does learning dax get me to that magician mage level? >> No.19935299

Pick up some azure data warehousing skills (simple sql needed) and learn sharepoint online (o365 desu!) and pick up the books by the creator of excel and you'll be in print money mode.

Web Dev sucks.
Indians and 18yr olds ensemble, they think they know the world.
So much petty argument and bullshit.
Tech changes every 18 months.
You also need to get into UX/UI.
So much fucking work for nothing.

Data is where it's at, you boss the pajeets around because you can say "you need to make this page IE6 compatible because we've had an uptick in high value abandoned cart from that user agent" and you can then present a shitty csv from a nginez/apache log that presents YTD, Q1 vs Q1 (regression, shitty regression basically) and you boss the pajeets around.

But, yes, everyone learns on the job, the degrees are worthless and if you get into DAX you can make fancy dashboards and then have the pain of having to get a graphic designer or use generic azure clipart to make things presentable.

tl;dr yes bby.

Also, I was also in state - everyone seemed dead, how is it for you? The only good thign is pension, but to ride it for 15yrs seems miserable. I quit after a year and made double, but 75K as a statie seems pretty good if you can WFH and have generous af deadlines.

If your job is easy as fuck, nothings stopping you from taking another...and then you can outsource it.

The best part is how the nurses flirt with me as I’m the only straight guy on my unit and meeting new people all the time. Definitely gone from an omnivert to an extrovert in no time.

I could go on for nursing as the hospital would pay for it but it’s 4 years of torturous hard work and the ease at which you could lose your license makes it not worth it to me. Plus I’ll retire when crypto takes off.

yes, ortho is much more fun than any other surgery. Youre looking at it as a pre-med , youll appreciate the nuances later.

The most fun surgeries (knees and hips > lap appys and gall bladderS). This is a comparison of the bread and butter. Then you have ortho trauma if you want more variety, spine if you want higher stakes, sports for a chill lifestyle with a cooler patient pop, hand and foot and ankle for fracture work, soft tissue work and arthroplasty. Shoulder and elbow for scoping open surgeries etc. Putting stuff IN is much more fun than cutting stuff out. Ortho >>>>

I’m sorry extremely underwhelmed with the current role I’m in, but for the past year I’ve been putting 90% of my salary into savings/stocks because the Army’s been paying for my food and housing. Currently overseas and I’m working 3 hours a day for 3 days a week. Every weekend is a four day weekend, but this will only go on for the next month or so. The Army can be a real shitter as well so I’m trying to enjoy as much as I can right now. I’ve been moving around away from home for a while though. There are a lot of things at home you take for granted until you’re gone, and I’m starting to miss them bad.

Overall I’d say it’s worked out. I‘m better paid than the majority of my friends and even though the ‘rona is hurting the economy, I’m extremely insulated from it. All in all not bad for my first job out of college.

Rent one out to a nice white family for £500 when it would easily be £950 because they deserve a chance to save up for their own home.

Euro here, reading this thread I just wonder why americans even work at all with these absurdly high wages. Just save for a few years and retire for life, your passive income from interest will be about the same as your salary.

All my frens and coworkers spend spend spend like it's going out of style. They're idiots trying to impress one another. My wife and I save over half of our $200k income and should be able to retire in about 10 years in out late 30s.

Hm, I guess a more accurate measure of wealth would be how much you can save away each month then, how much you can invest.

Most Americans are too stupid and financially irresponsible to save and invest aggressively to retire early or otherwise be financially free. Like >>19951197 said, people just spend their money to pay to finance a bunch if shit they don't need to impress people they don't even like. Just a select few of us know how to responsibly allocate our capital.

Actually I live in a mid sized city in the midwest with relatively low cost of living. And no it's not a culture less hellhole, it's actually pretty nice. Plenty of good paying white collar jobs here in government, banking, insurance, higher education, and healthcare.

Nice water bro! I work in a public water quality control lab. I almost got my operator license but got cucked out of it because I believed my coworkers.
>EPA is retarded and decides to change operator experience requirements
>Its okay anon, you just need to take the tests before the changes and you'll be good!
>Pass Operator 1 and 2 tests and apply
>Oooh, sorry you had to APPLY before the change now you can't get your license

At least the lab pay is alright. Taking calls from the general public is soul obliterating though.

>My water smells funny!
>What does it smell like?
>Bad!

Sigh

It's less bad now. Impossible to get fired so you pretty much get fucked for working hard inside. I could unload 5 53 foot trailers in a 4-5 hour shift and make the same as some lazy fuck who does 1. Now I just chill on my own. Try to do my job well enough to stay off the radar. Heavier than peak currently. Dudes filing for over 9.5 hours work are making stupid month. It's triple pay for every hour over 9.5.
