JEWelry is mostly a scam. Best you can do is buy from somewhere like mene, where the sale price is the spot price of the gold content plus a reasonable premium. Don't buy roastie-ware shit at 5X it's metal value.

Yeah, my brother-in-law did. You first need to know the diamond industry or whatever you want to call it are worse than car dealerships. Most are total fucking rip-offs. Don't buy her a .5, 1, 1.5, 2 carat etc.. Get something right under them - like a .09, 1.4, 2.8 etc..They are significantly cheaper and you don't really notice a difference from the larger carat at all. Online has the best options for more variety in cuts, as well. Blue Nile and James Allen are two of the more popular ones for online.

However, I would also search for small independent diamond dealers/jewelers whether you are close to them or not. Most cities have a few, but the majority also does online. The advantage with them is you can custom make a ring and save a shit ton of money. They won't try to rip you off like the larger places. Just tell them what you want and they will come up w/ a few options. Also, before you buy it they pay to have it sent to a diamond certification place and get you a certificate of authenticity.
