It means they're trying to convince some bank or VC to loan them money for an agreed upon debt restructuring (pending the bankruptcy courts). Companies don't necessarily go away when bankrupt, the shareholders get wiped out, the senior debtors get paid from the highest tranches down until there is no money left, and the debt is legally cleared. The balance sheet resets, usually the board of directors and management get replaced, and new management comes in to "start over".

From the point of view of a lender, bankruptcies are risky to invest in but can have giant upsides if done right. It's not like the business is starting from scratch, they already have all of the business infrastructure and most of the employees and all that. And now they have a clean balance sheet. It's not easy by any means, but with the right game plan you can turn a bankrupt company around and make profits again.

But it can go wrong too. The new management could be just as incompetent as the old. It's like getting so fat you need to get emergency liposuction, but then after the operation you just go back to your old habits

Bloomberg tv costs money (you have to subscribe) if it plays for more than 15 minutes a day. $10/mo extra fees if you don't generate at least that much in commission. Etc.

Basically, in Canada, you're getting fucked, no lube. Only choice you get is the hole.
