i notice that as i save more my thought process has naturally begun to shift to long-range goals and planning my life in a more orderly and intentional fashion- for example, i'm in the process of switching careers and i've been accepted into graduate school this fall, i've moved into a place where i anticipate staying for years, i've begun deferring instant gratification in favor of decisions that might reap fruit 2-10 years down the line (investing my savings being one of them).

Goals for the next few years include purchasing property (both a house and land), going into business so I can work for myself, and getting involved in my local government. These things have been on my mind for years, but only since I started saving more money have I been able to work towards them in a real way.

My greatest goal is improving my community, so if I became wildly successful I would start investing more in local businesses and organizations- I'd love to turn a cool old building near my house into a kind of community center, and there's a parcel of property that would be a great place for some kind of school or larger complex of buildings.

I think this is what maturity is like. I'm no longer just thinking for the moment, but planning for my life and goals for the future. Money helps with that, I think- you start taking a longer view, and weighing decisions differently.

It's not about fixing. It's about reclaiming time that would otherwise be rented out to some employer who's profiting off your labor. Not to say I'm not already pursuing goals and am starting/have already started business ventures, but they take time to become profitable, especially profitable enough to work for one's self full-time to justify quitting working for anyone else.

That being said, money will give me the ability to buy my own property I'm not obliged to share with anyone else I don't want to. This space will only help me to hyperfocus working on my pursuits, both business and pleasure, ultimately towards creating and living my idea of my best life.
