Chinks knew they fucked up hard when their lab had a security failure in January, and a bunch of shit probably got loose. I think we locked down in anticipation of something worse than a mild respiratory illness making it out of China. Had that happened we wouldn't be complaining, but since only COVID-19 made it abroad we look like we're overreacting.

I'm still concerned that nobody is reporting on corona acting like a hemophage. That's malaria's thing, and not something corona viruses do naturally. But if you were in the middle of colonizing Africa and needed it to be a good deal emptier than it is now, an easily transmissible airborne disease that overwhelmingly killed people with the sickle cell mutation, that would be one way to do it. It would also explain why black Americans are dying from corona in droves, even when compared to poor and overweight white Americans.

I lurked the covid general on /pol/ throughout January and can tell you the post quality was much higher than the garbage "it's just a flu bro" nothingburger posting you have all over the board now. I trust one of these groups much more than the other. When Trump made an infectious disease a culture war political issue he ruined any semblance of rational debate on it and I would take everything which downplays the seriousness of the disease over the next two years with a trailerload of salt.
