REITs are debt leverage instruments. They simply make nothing and give people a way to access real estate gains without actually owning real estate. Being margin called as a REIT is bankruptcy except you have nothing to liquidate.
There are plenty of bagholding shills and some of them might be good. But this is probably the most dangerous REITs of what you could choose. And it preys on the stupid and desperate. The shills for it are basically arguing that it will be saved by JPOW personally buying their shares. It is either unbelievable stupidity or trying to bag dump. Don't tell me how bad the dems are, Mitch and the Republicans allowed Lehman and Bear Stearns to collapse, and millions of Americans to default on their mortgages and lose their homes, and for all the spoils to end up inn the hands of the banks and ultrawealthy anyways.

Where's the tea party now?
It was an astroturf movement to prevent Obama from getting a second term, and to get congressions seats, and shiteating boomers ate it up happily.

And guess who pushed for deregulation of the financial institutions that built the bubble in the first place? I wonder how much money he made off of fucking up the global economy.

There is nothing "new" about REITs. JPOW personally buys the REIT there is no fucking chance that it remains a REIT and pays out a dividend.
Mortgage REITs are rentseekers that are allowed to exist so people can hold "real estate" in their portfolios if they aren't billionaires which is why they are mandated to pay dividends. JPOW buying the securities isn't going to pay you "divvys" because it will dissolve the REIT. JPOW is more concerned about saving the mortgages (and their holders) than your stupid debt instrument.

Nothing is fine about IVR. Everything about them is fucked. Price memory does NOT exist. I wouldn't touch REITs but I actually think literally any other one out there is a better choice than IVR.
The one I had ages ago was DLR. The only reason you are touching IVR is because of the "discount" when its basically a single breath away from bankruptcy. Which for a REIT means it ceases to exist.
You clearly don't understand what JPOW could do here. He can buy the mortgage but he will have ZERO interest in keeping your REIT alive.

EV will never get as big as people are acting. It is great for advancing battery tech, but replacing internal combustion engines with batteries is never gonna happen on a large scale. The materials are too scarce and the environmental impact of mining and disposal is horrible. I have been saying for years that hydrogen is the true future of energy storage. It might not have the incredible energy density of chemical batteries, but it has infinite resources and practically no environmental impact. I don't think Nikola will be the ones to take us there, and it is a long way off with how hard they are pushing EVs, but we will be there or close within our life times.

I have nothing against EV's but it is pure tulip mania at this point.
Cars are fundamentally deprecating assets. Elon can claim otherwise but "even he" can't beat entropy. And it is self defeating. The more people buy EVs the more TSLA will have a massive overhead just servicing the damn vehicles. And what about secondary markets? Is TSLA going to destroy these vehicles to prevent used car sales? Then people will want much lower prices since they can't recoup that part. If people can buy secondhand will TSLA still service them?
TSLA is a technology company that focused on the luxury markets. The more like a car company they become the worse, not better, their profits will be.

Reps and Dems pointing the fingers at eachother, where all of them get what they really wanted. It's just a show, just to keep us thinking we have a choice. Just to consolidate power in the elite and make sure a third party never disrupts the ruling order.

The carbon emissions of manufacturing an EV are barely greater than ICE and they have a fraction of the life time emissions, near zero if run off of renewable energy. Lithium isn't scarce, it's abundant and batteries can easily be recycled to produce new ones or reused in projects where high energy density doesn't matter, such as energy storage. No one that matters if going to give a shit about a few lithium mines when fossil fuel use kills over a million people each ear. They can also extract it from seawater if the conventional mining ever gets shuttered.

Hydrogen powered vehicles are a complete meme. Their fueling infrastructure is much more costly to develop even if the price of hydrogen was lowered to be competitive with electricity. I can find literally millions of places to charge an EV, anywhere that I can plug it in, but there are just a handful of hydrogen fueling stations. Toyota has been trying to push hydrogen for years, it hasn't worked out.

I don't want the thread to get derailed but I used to work in energy research. My personal take is that nuclear and renewables should be working together, not trying to antagonize each other as a replacement for fossil fuels.
Energy itself needs to be diversified. Hydro and geothermal require being blessed by geography or geology. Baseline load can really only economically be taken up by Nuclear if you want to take oil and gas plants offline but only for densely populated areas. Remote areas could be better equipped with small solar or wind farms. And you diversify energy for the same reason you diversify investment portfolios.

Trump can't "bring in a new chairman." The chairman position is essentially just being spokesman for the Fed board of governors who make decisions by majority vote. He could try to demote JP back to a normal governor, but based on the precedent established for the full removal of a governor, he would be challenged on the issue and the demotion overturned unless he could provide a substantive cause for the removal. Considering the Fed saved the market in March, there is no way Trump can argue for removal. If he whines about the Fed not doing enough, JP just has to trot out the legitimate list of reasons why doing more will hurt the economy (while ignoring the fact that Fed policy has been hurting the economy since it was established).

Full removal of JP from the board of governors is just a flat out fantasy even beyond kicking him from the "chairman" role.

The reason hydrogen isn't working out is because there is no current incentive for it. Gas prices will stay so low without regulations that no one will switch over and EVs are the hot topic right now. I am just coming up with this off the top of my head, but I imagine that it wouldn't be hard for each fueling station to produce their own hydrogen or just large local plants. Energy density is so low on hydrogen that it can't even touch batteries or gas, but frequent refueling wouldn't be too horrible. And hydrogen would be dirt cheap to produce.

As good as new gen nuclear is, it still has very little public support and the cost of bringing plants online means that there are few use cases for it in most developed countries. Energy storage prices are rapidly dropping which have made solar plus storage fairly cheap in most places. Energy storage prices will continue to drop as virtual power plants get brought online and electric car batteries are used to store power and feed it into the grid when needed, replacing peaker plants at a much lower cost. Tesla has made software specifically for this.

New panels are much less toxic than the ones that are 30 years old. The problem has always been profitability of recycling solar panels, but it's trivial for them to strip the glass and aluminum away. The solar cells themselves wouldn't produce that much waste if they were thrown out. It's really a minor issue that lobbyist use to turn people against solar power.

>suddenly it becomes very hard to get tomatoes and onions and toilerpaper and shit
it probably won't, but i don't want to fight for it. Liquidity preference ain't shit if i can't wash my damn hands and clean my living space. The food part will be a pain, but schmaltz is a product of poverty and lack of butter. There's going to be new and interesting things to make. Just going to suck dealing with groceries in another period of panic.
>I hope that bet backfires
Me too, I'm deep in some components. It's a hedge, but a pretty heavy one. It's absurd how much the index moves my new babies.

literally could've learned the same things watching CNBC. Your broken clock is shit.

I hope you also cut off your trigger finger so they couldn't draft you in January's WW3, right? Remember when the US went to a hot war over a few firecrackers from Iran and pol was right again?

I actually wanted to do that, maybe do some UPRO/TMF style holding with some of my IRA.

If we could finally get thorium reactors going, there is basically no safety risk, they are walk away safe, if something goes wrong, you just leave and it will sort itself out. Unless you live in bumfuck nowhere like a mountain top or Utah, I think that the majority of places have a high enough demand to support small scale nuclear, but I don't know how profitable that would be.

>Energy storage prices will continue to drop as virtual power plants get brought online and electric car batteries are used to store power and feed it into the grid when needed, replacing peaker plants at a much lower cost. Tesla has made software specifically for this.
Global energy storage capacity would be enough to provide the world's energy needs for only a millisecond. Batteries will not replace online energy production. It is not even about technology but about energy densities as limited by physics and thermodynamics. This is why there is interest in pumping water to store potential energy or using waste heat of reactors for desalinization.
>The solar cells themselves wouldn't produce that much waste if they were thrown out.
It scales directly with volume. Again you are limited by physics from the energy density you can squeeze out of a panel.

Even if they could produce hydrogen at the fueling stations, it's still going to be much more expensive to build a hydrogen fueling station than to just drop a few electric chargers in a parking lot and attach them to the grid. This is killing the case for hydrogen vehicle because no one will buy them with so few places to fuel them. Even if the government threw billions of dollars at building stations, it still wouldn't be enough to create the number of stations needed for people to comfortably transition from ICE vehicles. I'm sure hydrogen vehicles will cost more to maintain than EVs which is another nail in the coffin.
>>19646588
The point of diminishing returns for battery technology doesn't matter when electric vehicles are already superior to ICE, nearly cheaper to produce, and much cheaper to own. Battery energy storage will become very cheap as the degradation issue is solved and there will be so many electric car batteries that no other storage option will be able to compete on cost. Each Tesla has the equivalent of something like 5 power wall batteries. There's going to be more energy storage in the EV fleet than needed to store renewable power during off peak times.
>>19646700
Nuclear is already very efficient and I don't think it's going to get cheaper in the future since much of the cost of building new plants is dealing with the red tape and lobbying against it. It's nearly impossible to get new plants built in most places, even when new gen nuclear is tremendously safe. Maybe fusion will be better at appeasing the public but that's decades out. Until then, nuclear is dead in the water.

>Global energy storage capacity
You mean the current energy capacity? That definitely won't be the case in the future, each EV could power a few homes during times when renewable power isn't feeding the grid, and you have all the industrial energy storage projects on top of it. Solar or wind plus storage has fallen so much that it's able to compete against most other types of energy production.
>It scales directly with volume
Sure but it isn't that much waste when solar cells are so light and thin even if they covered the world. It's not enough waste that would make solar panel untenable. The efficiency of solar power also doesn't matter, there's more than enough space. The only thing that truly matters in the energy business is cost.

Hey guys I have a favor to ask - as a European, I’m not very familiar with US politics and I’m trying to estimate whether Trump will be re-elected (and which US stocks to buy/sell accordingly). Can someone tell me if something major is missing from my makeshift analysis?
In my experience, people rarely vote based on policy issues but based on actual events that occurred during the legislative period (especially the recent ones) and how governments and politicians addressed them. As the incumbent, the focus will be mostly on Trump. Here’s how I see it.

What the left thinks people will remember about Trump:
>Kept downplaying Covid for months and made increasingly wrong predictions about the spread
>Gave incoherent, borderline dangerous medical advice
>Made some poor choices in crisis management
>Failed to prevent big corps from driving out small businesses in the wake of Corona
>Sent the military to “kill and oppress black people”

What people will actually remember about Trump:
>Put a travel-ban in place against Corona weeks earlier than other nations
>Told people repeatedly that they should make up their own mind about which medical advice to take
>Urged Democrat Governors to restart the economy when the crisis subsided
>Sent every working citizen a 1200 USD check of “Trumpbux”
>Sent the military to prevent killings and stop looters

I estimate the probability of a Trump re-election to be in the 65-75% range, with an upwards trend the longer the riots continue. Thoughts?
