Staking is not a way to introduce scarcity. The primary goal of the chainlink team has always been making the best decentralized oracle solution. Unlike other lower quality crypto currencies like BAND, they don’t have random arbitrary mechanisms in place that serve no other purpose than to pump the price of their token.

With that said, the purpose of staking is to add security to oracles and reduce the incentive of bad actors. If you stand to lose money by giving the wrong answer, you are highly incentivised to
1) make sure the data you send is reliable, consistent and high quality

2) not accept bribes to give incorrect answers

This will of course have the purpose of increasing the price of chainlink if chainlink sees mass adoption.
