I'm currently on unemployment making $1400 every 2 weeks. I have 4 more payments for a total of $5600 that I'll make within 2 months. My employer called me back to work but I'm a wageslave only making $13/hr. If I go back to full time I'll be making roughly $900 every 2 weeks. What should I do? Can I keep claiming benefits? It doesn't matter if you are getting paid less or what percentage that is. It matters what your pay is. So for example, I am making $250-550 week (gross) less than I would be if this gay lockdown wasn't in place but because I am still getting paid more than $1,300/wk (gross) because of my base salary It doesn't matter because my pay is still too high to get subsidized by UI. If the government comes after you, they will send threatening letters for a long time and then eventually start taking money out of your bank account. They do the same thing when you underpay taxes.

If you're expecting hyperinflation, or even getting profits from crypto HODL, you can just drag this out for a year and then pay them back later to settle the debt.

Initially, it's always a civil claim. They might force you to pay back the full balance plus interest and fees. And they might try to garnish your paycheck or your bank account. It becomes criminal if you put it off for a long time and/or straight-up refuse to pay.

I can add to this. If you talk to them, play dumb but don't make it obvious you're playing dumb. Apologize and say you didn't understand how to file some portion, or you made a mistake during a couple weeks when you were working but you filed a month later and you didn't know exact dates or whatever. The call center guys will be sympathetic and put you on a more lenient repayment plan.

if you act like you know the law, or you're rude, or you refuse saying you don't owe that money because ____, they will start prosecuting you.
