Those short volumes are just noise. It's not even nasdaq/nyse data but off shore. Squeezemetrics thinks that high short volumes signal buying because of how market makers process orders. In my experience it's true but reality is a lot messier than that. Just ignore it.
If you want daily short interest, there's a site called shortsight which sells those. They buy it from factset. You can also ask Ihor Dusaniwsky on twitter. He's their pr guy and will give you charts for free if you ask nicely.

I noticed that too but I never completely figured it out. One possibility is that they pull those numbers from different TRFs. There are TRF Chicago, TRF Carteret, TRF NYSE, ADF and ORF for OTC.
TRF is a Trade Reporting Facility. To get the wholest picture you have to add them all together. Reporting to those TRFs should be more or less random. Might be that some of those services don't add them up or only use one a single TRF while the other services use another one.
One service might set the numbers is relation to whole market volume while the other sets it in relation to TRF reported volume. It's all a lot of of gobbledigook.
If you plot all those numbers out you see that they're all more or less the same curve. They just have a different offset.

Every REIT I've seen on the TSX is down right now. Honestly they are riskier in how the post-covid world will be orientated. Flights, I believe, will eventually resume, but real estate might lose a ton of value - especially commercial. Online shopping, companies cutting downtown office space, etc. The REIT I've been looking at is Choice (Loblaws will be around) and ones more heavily in residential.
