>Go on any job site
>Every single job that isn't slave labour has a requirement of either a 4 year degree or a community college diploma
>/pol/ and /r9k/ made me believe that University was a j*wish scam EVEN THOUGH university graduates make a fuckton more money in Canada than only hs graduates
>Fell for the debt meme, even though with government grants, scholarships, bursaries, working during Summers or doing a co op program you can easily graduate with little to no debt

>The trend is that everyone is getting a degree, it is impossible to compete without it
>Most of Canada's job growth in recent years was for university graduates

>Fell for the /r9k/ "blaming everyone except yourself and being a lazy loser" meme

NEVER LISTEN TO /pol/! They want you to fail! I have a theory that /pol/ is run by J*WS in order to trick young white men into becoming losers.

Stay in school guys. Work hard. Go to the gym. Don't settle or be lazy. Don't be like me. It's over for me but you can go on without me, do it.

53% of graduates are either unemployed or work in a field unrelated to their field. Even stem becomes more and more corrupted with every passing year.

A education is a investment. Simply jumping into that much debt without comparing what post educational opportunities you'll gain(as well as opportunites lost like home ownership or family) must be taken into account by young people...... Which they are not.

there's like 4 ways to make good money without a degree.

1. union trade apprenticeship. huge wait lists because everyone wants to make $30-50/hour without a degree.
2. police/fireman. also a huge wait list and it's stressful and dangerous.
3. teach yourself a skill, this is only really applicable to comp sci because you have a 0% chance of getting a job as a self-taught accountant, self-taught engineer, etc. also self-teaching CS is hard.
4. start a business. harder than the top 3 combined.

I never went to college and have /made it/. The Internet is gods gift to humanity and fuck colleges for pumping out brainless idiots with zero capacity to think for themselves. The meme that college = money is an enormous scam by the industrial-education complex and you can 100% make it outside if you have the drive and ambition. I may be in tech which is relatively easier for people with non-traditional backgrounds, but I've seen people make it in other fields too.

You can make good money without a degree. I got hired 5 years ago by one of the top defense contractors in the nation with a GED and self taught reverse engineering skills. I spent my 20s doing valet parking and garage attendant, until I hit 30 and realized I didn't want to be poor anymore. So, I started reversing an MMORPG. Taught myself x86 ASM, C/C++, Java, Python and Javascript in the process. I was always good with computers, I just was chasing the wrong dream in my 20s.

I look at Software Engineering and Software Development jobs on LinkedIn and pretty much all of them say "REQUIRED: BS degree in CS/EE or some other related shit" or they say "Without degree, you need 10+ years of experience...oh btw the position is entry level and the salary is 90K." Going to college and getting a degree doesn't mean shit. Most CS programs are worthless. I feel like the people doing the recruiting and hiring are the ones who will put down "DEGREE REQUIRED" because they got suckered into going to college and want to validate themselves. Fuck that.

Start your own company doing whatever it is you do. You will ALWAYS get shafted working for somebody else.

This doesn't work. You need somewhere to go to learn, instructors to help guide and other students who might be more advanced to help you learn.
Plus, internships.
College also gives you time to really sort your shit out before moving into a high level position, if that is what you want. Or a job that is highly flexible. With a degree you have a shit ton of leverage on employers and they will kiss your ass.
