SATOSHI HIMSELF

Satoshi Nakamoto was David Kleiman's neighbor a few houses down the street. Adam Back didn't get into Buttcoin until it was already well over $100 per.

I am amazed that there are still bizlets, like OP, who don't know the very basics.

I should have been a bit clearer. Satoshi Nakamoto was the birth name of Kleiman's neighbor from down the street. This is where, allegedly, the "Satoshi Nakamoto" pseudonym for the creator(s) of Bitcoin comes from.

I was under the impression that it was Dorian Prentice Satoshi Nakamoto who was Hal Finney's neighbor in the small town of Temple City. Which is an extraordinary coincidence in a town of 36,000 and given Finney's history with cryptography and CRASH (cryptographic cash).

not only this, but there is the case of the ip logs.
early on...around 2010 there was some problem with the btc client....satoshi uploaded his logs because it worked on this machine but was crashing on others...embedded in those logs showed the ip address satoshi was connecting from...
location was CA about 40 miles away from hal that was suspected to be a coffee shop chain....hmmmm

They lived some blocks away from each other; they weren't neighbors. It is an interesting coincidence but I don't know if anyone's ever actually mapped the exact distance and seen how many people total are in the vicinity to get a better feel for the odds, as well as things like how common Nakamoto is, how many people knew his birth name was Satoshi considering he went by Dorian, etc.

In my opinion Hal Finney is super unlikely to be Satoshi. But depending on some of the priors there, it's possible it could increase the odds that Hal knew a bit more than he let on.

I believe that IP leak was legit but there's no evidence it belonged to a coffee shop, as far as I can tell, it seems likely to have been a standard residential cable connection (house/apartment/condo), and I also actually find it as pretty good evidence that Hal isn't Satoshi. I think there's some chance Hal knew who he really was - a higher chance than almost anyone else - but I think even that chance is very low.

You've gotta get your priors straight; pretty much any serious tech professional in the US will probably pop up around that general region of CA that Satoshi's IP did. My guess is he may have been there working for a tech company as his day job, while Bitcoin was his side pet project and hobby until he eventually quit to do it full time. The CA IP was long before it seemed like it would ever take off, so I suspect he was employed as a Windows C++ programmer at some company. Maybe a freelancer or consultant.
