I don't expect the stock market to tank much from it as it's decoupled now (unlike back then we have fiat currency and a government committed to doing a Japan to their stock market. See Japan after bubble. no crash, but no growth ever again)

Japan is the closest i can really think of for a model going forward. stagnation, zombie companies kept alive. birth rate depleted as nobody can afford to do anything anymore.

By virtue of having a computer and internet (ie, in the top half of global wealth), we're probably going to be mostly fine. Its becoming pretty clear to me that this whole covid-19 fearmongering campaign was a mission to destroy small businesses and further strengthen our dependence on major corporations. The already poor will get drastically poorer, we're probably going to hear about lots of famines in the coming years. And the rich will get exponentially richer. I expect to see the world's first trillionaire before 2030 (house of saud doesn't count since its split up between like 100 of them)

If economies stop expanding forever like now, populations will have to aswell. If economies contract for a few years while they adapt then population has to too. it's scary. an expanding economy needs more people. a contracting one needs... less people.

We have literally infinite space but you need to go through the reserve treaty bullshit, but there's basically limitless untouched, unclaimed land north of the #1 highway that goes all the way across Canada. Most of it isn't even owned by anyone, its just what's called Crown Land (a super antiquated landowning system where the government basically owns it and does nothing with it) or reserve land of which 99% is unused. Were at a point now where only an external military force could really make anything happen with those contracts and treaties. It just needs major development

I think they'll just buy up the entire business a la JD Rockefeller when he bought up his competition's oil companies for pennies on the dollar after he choked them out by buying all the railroads. But as said, they're going to be doing it for pennies on the dollar and then just throwing their logo up on the wall. I've already seen the largest local insurance and investing companies in my city get bought out and rebranded with major international corporate logos in the last month.
