It was 7 days IF the blocks kept coming in at 10 minute intervals. Now they're coming in at 40 minutes each, so it'll take 4 times as long before the difficulty adjustment kicks in since it's based on a 2016 block interval.

lurn2maths bitch

2016 blocks = 2 weeks (6 blocks per hour X 24 blocks = 144.per day. 14 (days) x 144 (blocks) = 2016

So you've got 1008 blocks to go until difficulty adjustment. Except it takes 40 minutes per block. That's 40320 minutes or 672 hours, or 28 days.

And because there's only 1 block every 40 minutes the fee's per transaction are going to shoot through the roof.

It's not a solid 10 minute block interval, it's a target with variance but on average, block times will be 10 minutes. So some times you'll not get a block for over an hour, other times you'll get 3 within a few minutes. As time goes on we'll get a better idea of what the real block time is now that many noncompetitive miners are leaving the network.
