The old chainlink diagrams like picrelated had a smart contract flow that went (input)->(chainlink node)->(smartcontract network)->(chainlink node)->(output) The new ones have a network of chainlink nodes in the middle that can talk to existing smart contract networks (ethereum in the ETH talk, all networks in the non-eth talk) In other words the default flow for a smartcontract no longer needs to touch any network other than chainlink
