this is still centralized. still no need to care. you can write a web client to poll for price information in a non-shit language no problem. it's doing it in a trustless way that's the actual hard part. linktards are nowhere near solving that, and for now you can act like switching out a programming language to do something trivial in a centralized way is some kind of breakthrough but it's just COPE at this point.

The whole point of crypto is to stand independent of USD and centralized organizations that control fiat value. Also, news flash: ETH is not supposed to be currency. It specifically guarantees access to computation on the EVM, and its value is supposed to reflect the demand for the EVM.

Similarly, LINK's value is supposed to reflect and be determined by the demand for the use of Chainlink's oracle network. That is the only way the network can autonomously secure itself once crypto has exited its volatile speculative gold rush phase. Why would you want to collateralize your smart contracts with centrally-controlled fiat or some other token whose value fluctuates based on the demand for a completely unrelated service (use of EVM)?

The token is needed so that Chainlink can call information from a node at the same time it transfers to a node. The network cuts transactions in half that way. Only erc677s do this and Chainlink is the only one of those. Terrible fud. Learn to code

>> No.18955983

>>18955216

Chainlink will be centralized until there is a critical mass of oracles as it is vulnerable to sybil attacks until then. Once that point is reached, anyone can have their NEET node, sybil attacks will be prohibitively expensive and difficult, and there will probably be some form of decentralized governance. Until that point I'd actually rather that the team be in control of the tokens--- everyone always talks about how mining is "fair" and good for the network. Mining only guarantees that the people with the most resources (electricity, computing power) accumulate the coins. It means coins possibly don't get into the hands of the people and organizations best suited to advance the interests of the network. Also access to those resources is highly geopolitically specific so it's not actually a "fair" method of distributing coins, just ends up being mostly chinese people at this point. In the case of Chainlink, the team can actively distribute the coins if they want (via OTC sales) to entities that they feel would benefit the network most. This active role in distributing the coins affords a key strategic advantage in developing the network.

However, the argument for me is less about the dangers of centralization than it is about having a service secured by a token specific to that service's microeconomy. USD or any other coin fluctuates based on many factors unrelated to Chainlink (war, politics, inflation, etc). As does ETH by different factors. It makes the network secure for it to have a coin--- used as payment and collateral within that network--- whose value is as proportional as possible to the demand for that particular network. That is the whole rationale for tokenization.

Yes. Even if LINK were only staked for Ethereum-based Dapps (whenever staking is introduced) its scarcity (and price) would climb and climb. Now it will happen at a much faster rate. It's ironic that any "Ethereum killer" that uses chainlink will essentially guarantee the continued primacy of Ethereum. Ethereum will continue to dominate, at the very least serving as a clearing area for Chainlink transactions, though probably also as the primary venue for smart contracts/dapps.
