This is indeed a testnet for Polkadot, which is Gavin Wood's project. For it to be a viable network in its own right, this first depends upon the success of DOT. In which case, buy DOT.

Re low supply has anyone found any guidance on the testnet's tokenomics, bc I haven't. They'll probably mint a lot more if these aren't circulating right? Tokenomics of the chain are likely secondary to ensuring that parachains are able to be tested.

And yeah they have airdropped a ton of these to DOT devs so they will get dumped. Originally they weren't allowed to transfer tokens.

I guess the thing I'm trying to wrap my head around is the differentiation between the platforms.

Polkadot is supposed to be focused on stability and security, and Kusama is for experimentation.

Why would a company with parachains on Polkadot chain be using Kusama? Would the entry point for all companies wanting to eventually use Poladot start with Kusama parachains? And if so why use two tokens?

FWIW they have said Kusama will be one of the first networks bridged to Polkadot, and eventually could be a para-relay chain on the Polkadot network.

Any informed anons know more about this and care to clarify?

This sounds like recycled talking points from that OG Marine fag.

I think all of this is probably pretty speculative because the verdict is still out on Polkadot adoption versus Etherium 2.0, which has already garnered a lot of developers and adoption.

So really its a meta bet:
1. Etherium prominence won't hinder companies using Polkadot and also dev adoption and switching over to programming in Rust vs Solidity,
2. companies using Polkadot are going to want to experiment in Kusama, which is unaudited so won't be used for production, and
3. because its unaudited, an assumption that somehow people will still want to use that for public blockchains, regardless of whether it is "for the people" or not.

There is no reason at this point to think that this token, whose supply is the same as DOT, will overtake the actual platform's token in price. Just my opinion but I would think its quite the opposite, assume it won't unless there is a compelling reason it will.
