When the situation OP described happens to me I stay on for however long it takes (usually not more than an hour) and then just quit an hour earlier the next day. If I'm lucky the manager will be really desperate and authorize OT for me to stay on later so that's always good. Even before the pandemic I worked at home and was a shut-in so it has never been an issue for me. I'm just moving around hours with the occasional OT bump and it makes management happy with me.
