18740755 No.18740755 [Reply] [Original]

What's the point in creating anything? Everyone is creating things at every moment of every day. What for? So we can consume and then create more? At what point have we not created enough to last everyone a lifetime? All we really need is food, shelter and power. We have all the books we could ever want to read. We have all the films we could ever want to see. We have heard every possible subject be spoken about, at length, with enough hours recorded in archives to last a life time of research. Everything else is worthless fluff, just being made for the sake of making something, so it feels like we're making good use of our time. Every single business is the same: either selling useless trinkets or pointless entertainment to fill time with. Surely there's something else we can do now? And no, I'm not interested in whatever retarded religious zealot wants to appear out of the woodwork and tell me to convert. It's just more useless product, like the rest.

I'm not thinking about it at a level as deep as you are, but I think I totally get what you're saying.

I used to play Tekken 3 and Tekken Tag 1 with several other really good players back in 2000 and felt like we could play that all day. We actually did, for over a decade. I'd still be playing it they didn't come out with Tekken 4, 5, 5DR, 6, 6BR, Tag 2, 7 etc.

I eventually fell out of the series because I couldn't afford to buy a PS3, a PSP, and then a PS4, and everyone else moved on to the newer games. I never understood why they had to keep making new ones (other than a cash grab), when classic games like chess or basketball don't have a new version every 3-4 years and people still love playing it.

Also all the anime I have yet to watch would probably take decades. Like right now I'm doing a Naruto marathon, took me several weeks to get to pic related. And gonna watch One Piece next.

Even now, I'm still having fun occasionally playing good old Warcraft III custom games with my girlfriend and friends over LAN, like several hours a week. Maps like Hero sieges and Hero Line Wars we've played hundreds of times, we still enjoy thoroughly.

Everything new is basically just a cash grab.

I have conflicting morals here. OTOH freedom is good and so therefore that implies that the free market is good. OTOH certain things are just objectively bad for us like cigarettes or consoomerism, and yet humanity encourages all kinds of bad behaviors like drugs, alcohol, cigs, fast food, overconsumption of media, porn, etc... now some of these may be ok in moderation and some aren’t good at all, regardless our society encourages overconsumption of things, and if you point out all these bad things to npcs you always get the answer like “I like capitalism hmph” now I ain’t no commie, if anything free handouts encourage more useless and overconsumption.

Freedom is just an antiquated meme, if you scrutinise the situation nobody is actually 'free' in any sense. Agreed that pro-capitalistireenos are generally NPC twats, but not leftist either. Just think we need to think of something new, and fast. Not even necessarily a new politics, but a new reason for living. What is the intention of our civilisation, exactly? Freedom? From what? Ourselves?

Good point. But I don't see why we need a free market, consumerism and all that shit to have these things. All capitalism does is loosely veil the slave underclass that is necessary for rich people to be free in this sense. Meanwhile, they have to be placated with consumerism garbage, constantly, and so everything has become just that. Our entire economy is now there to serve the slave class itself. Noble pursuits are no longer valuable. Society's only intention is to ensure slave satisfaction.

We practically already have this. Most people don't do any meaningful or necessary work. We have a facade economy of people clocking in to read Facebook and Twitter all day, while a fraction of the population does any actual work.

Said people need to feel as though they belong to a moving culture, however, which is why we create this constant cycle of 'new' events happening. Their minds are then entertained by the entertainment, so they remain docile, because nobody has a clue what else to do anymore. Our society has no ultimate intention, as I say. No point other than base experience of 'events'. I guess the religious/new age/spiritual nuts are trying to change that, but it's just another mode of utter retardation I can't abide.

Only humans create, that makes it a noble goal that can easily atrophy if we stop. A byproduct of that approach is that it grants us the skill of discerning knowledge from falsities. The alternative is we lapse into hedonistic consumption like wild animals because we were shaped by our nihilistic opinions and habits.

You should reread Adam Smith again, both books. He really does care about the human condition and offers some hope.

We clearly exist in a degenerate time for art, post-modernists have a pyramid scheme of selective entertainment, their idea of entertainment is convincing others to see value where there is none and coerce people to say "everything has been done before, thus nothing is art unless a lens is applied to it that contrasts against other lenses that have been applied to art".
