Hey OP, I got a shout out for you, just picked up this laptop for a really good deal. Lenovo made a mistake and listed the model with 16GB ram and an 8gb nvidia 2070 for the same price as the model with a 1660ti and 8gb ram. They fixed the pricing 2 days after I bought the better model.
Been playing the resident evil remakes and having a blast.
Best part, I didn’t have to sell link to afford it hahah.

I trialed 144hz for a few weeks on a monitor I returned and honestly it's a total meme for anyone other than top 1% competitive csgo players. With my vid card I had to pick between 144hz 1080p and 60hz 1440, and 1440p res is just too fucking roomy to abandon just for some meme frames.

It's just another piece of lifestyle creep they push on users just like curved screens and led backlights. Stupid addons to keep people buying the same monitor over and over each year distracted from the fact that core panel tech hasn't really advanced at all in a decade.

Id always prefer 144Hz@1080p over 60Hz@1440p/4k. 60Hz is unbearable when used to 144Hz. Cant even stand Windows in 60Hz anymore.
Also, you dont need to achieve stable 144fps, even moderate ~100fps make a huge difference. 60Hz displays are outdated tech.

And for me I can legit say that it did not feel like a significant boost to smoothness and when it was gone I didn't miss it at all. If it was a freebie then sure I'd take 144hz, but since it actually forces you to play at a lower resolution or gfx quality or else get a $1000 gfx card upgrade, I don't find the tradeoff worth it.

Not to mention if you're playing the kinds of games where 144hz makes a huge difference, and playing then frequently enough that the feature is a musthave for you, you've already lost at life. Nothing more pathetic than a hardcore competitive gamer above the age of 16.

Not that it matters to the point at hand but it also had demonstrably shittier colors, contrast ratios and brightness even after professional calibration, compared to my 8 year old 60hz QNIX IPS (which still works perfectly today)

There is no tradeoff faggot, its perfectly fine to play the same resolution on an 144Hz display. However if your hardware sucks, you might not get the full potential out of it, thats it. G- or Freesync are adjusting your refresh rate to your fps.
You just make use of excessive fps >60, on any hardware
