He's egotistical. Most people don't realise that Gavin Wood is the creator of Ethereum but Vitalik managed to take all the credit.

Don't worry about Vitalik fudding Chainlink though, he's literally been wrong with all his predictions in crypto since 2015.

The recognition that ultimately his project is just one of many settlement layers. Enterprises will likely have a multitude of settlement layers, both private and public (hence why interoperability is essential). He recognizes that Chainlink is middleware capable of bridging these settlement layers. Tamperproof inputs AND outputs anon, Vitalik recognizes that he has essentially created a decentralized storage base while LINK is the one funneling the data in and the outputs out.

TLDR, Vitalik was once king of crypto because every project needed ETH for their ERC20 ICO. Now Sergey is king because every project will inevitably need tamperproof data in order to achieve adoption. He also likely recognizes there are no viable alternatives to LINK, either integrate it or your chain is essentially reduced to tokenization

They can build their own code and make an oracle network but they'd still need node operators/data providers, & to develop working relationships with enterprises. CL already has a huge head start on both fronts

remember that Tether's ToS forbids US persons to own Tether yet no exchange honors it by forbidding US accounts from holding Tether

tether is one big red flag and will go to zero overnight one day. they don't have 1:1 usd and there's no way to exchange them into usd. especially if you are a US person

Sure they'll just need a time machine to go back 8 years, completely rewrite the ETH design rationale, then beat Sergey to the punch of wooing Big Banking, and then start developing their solution, and then beat Chainlink to acquiring Town Crier and getting a lock on the entire TEE ecosystem, then get Ari Juels on board before Sergey gets to him, then come up with their own second layer throughput solutions like threshold signatures, then create obfuscate-at-will smart contracts through DECO and mixicles, then if they do all that they might be a valid competitor.
