Depression is very often a shallow term. Psychiatry uses it as a holistic notion to encapsule potentially infinitely complex of individual issues. Maybe your life is just shitty and you have to fix it? Sort yourself out and stick to plans to achieve preset goals? Fix any possible endocrine issues (low serotonine/dopamine/testosterone etc.). Maybe your worldview is highly problematic? Or there is no way to score a „success“ in it (there is no predefined attainable goal that you actually want to reach in your life, making your brain go into a state of perpetual inhibition/desperation). Also start working out and eating properly, its not that hard. As you didn‘t provide us with any further info, sadly we cannot help you.

if u want a serious response, stop focusing on the past and live in the present OP. Depression comes from thinking of the past and what could of been. Being worried comes from thinking of the future and what could happen. Are you depressed or worried? figure that out first and then begin to start focusing on the present. Good luck OP.

what happens when you're both? I'm depressed about the past and am stuck in mental loops if what could have been if I'd done things differently, AND worried about what might happen in the future at the same time. depression + worry = anxiety. sometimes I wish I'd just die.

OP if you really want to fix depression read these two things:
https://pmohackbook.org/ (free PDF, no ads and anything)
and "the subtle art of not giving a fuck" by Manson (you can find PDF easily using duckduckgo or something)
Yes you might think, another normie babbling when hearing about this, or when reading it but trust me. Read the whole thing from start to finish, go through the whole thing. It really work on your subconscious mind, trust me.

Are you willing to begin walking, and gradually increase your walks to at least three, four, or five miles a day, making them brisk and vigorous so as to get the full benefit of them? The research proving the great benefit of that is enormous. It is best to go out as early as you can, preferably even at dawn, which causes us to produce the optimum amount of serotonin, and so makes it much easier for us to go to bed early in the evening. Conversely, don't expose yourself to sources of light, such as your phone screen or computer monitor, after 8 or 9 p.m., which inhibits the production of the sleeping chemical melatonin. Your diet is another thing to take into consideration. If you are not eating healthy, nutritious food, or are putting bad things into your body, you will lack the strength to think and act vigorously. Jordan Peterson talks about a young girl who would do nothing but come home in the evening and repetitively watch the same old film again and again. He asked her about what food she was eating, and found that she was trying to subsist on something like a few cups of rice a day. Changing the diet alone made her mood improve.

Also it doesnt ever go away because brain paths don't just disappear but you can bypass them until you're left with only the hardest triggers , these are easier to get out from once you did it once.
Get ready to relapse , it's all part of the process. Learn your triggers and fight them by rearranging your life around them.
If relapse is inevitable (it is) , try to catalyze your state of mind , make something out of it. I write characters for cinema out of these emotions , find something that works for you.
And lastly , work. Negociate with yourself a task that you will be willing to do for the rest of your life and get to it , choose a burden worth carrying and carry it.

Not an expert but I can give you my perspective as a PharmD student.

>Anti-depressants (ADs) work by giving you back your energy but not much else.
>Some agents also give a little bit of analgesia (Cymbalta-duloxetine)
>People with major depressive disorder sit in bed all day because their neurotransmitters have basically gone dormant. They need the AD's to restore their energy and improve their QOL.
>ADs aren't going to magically make you feel better about your life situation and the adverse effects aren't anything to laugh at.
>You need help in more ways than just an AD.
>You need somebody, if not yourself, to change your thought patterns and the way you treat yourself.
>If you're engaging in behaviors that make life worse, or if you're constantly battering yourself imagining killing yourself over every cringey memory, anti-depressants aren't going to fix shit.

There's more that you need but I'm barely qualified to say this much. I love you /biz/ bro.

>Start by being 100% positive to yourself.
Think of a phrase like "I love myself" or "I'm going to fix myself" and say it to yourself every waking second. Whenever you have a negative thought tell it to SHUT THE FUCK UP.

When you first start this process you're still going to self-deprecate and you're going to tell yourself that doing this is stupid and it isn't going to work. Just tell yourself doubting self to shut the fuck up and keep being positive.

You might also get lazy. Don't self-deprecate to get back on track. Instead say something like "I know this is hard but I can keep doing this and I will."

I personally had this habit that whenever I had a cringey memory pop up I would cope by picturing me hold my shotgun to my face. It was a coping mechanism to reduce the cringe (pain). If I imagined killing myself, it was like imagining it all being over and the pain wouldn't be there and then the cringe would subside. What I've done to fix that is to instead say "So the fuck what you did that weird thing while drunk, you're still alive and you're here right now. The people from this memory barely fucking remember you now and they don't fucking matter anyways. They don't fucking matter to your future. The only person making you feel bad is you."

I know you can find the strength, anon.

You can not have another beginning, but you can have another ending.
Change starts the moment that you decide you want to work on changing.
There are other ways anon, there is a lot of good in this world.
Really try to go to sleep at 22pm, wake up at 6.30am, take a slow breakfast and go for a solitary walk in the woods while the sun rises and the birds start singing. Breathe.
Being in nature is very helpful for your mental health.

>> No.18301447

Second this.
Fix practical questions first - when will I wake up, when will I go to sleep, when will I shut down devices, what will I eat, when will I go on a walk, when will I read a little bit in a book.

Also, anons, really go to therapy. It helps a lot. I know its a big hurdle. But it is really worth it. For everyone. Don't be ashamed.

And please, nobody, kill yourselves.
My father killed himself when I was 13. It left permanent marks on a lot of people. It's a bad thing to do. Life can be good, life can be bad, that is life - and we're all in this together.

This. Hormonal imbalance is the first thing you should change if feeling depressed.

If exercise doesn't work, change your diet.
If changing your diet doesn't work, set goals for yourself and work hard to meet them.
If setting goals doesn't work, talk to someone who is close to you.
If talking to someone close doesn't work (or you don't know anyone with that level of trust), than talk to a psychiatrist.
If talking to a psych doesn't work, get tests to make sure your hormones are balanced while talking to the shrink and then, AND ONLY THEN, start taking anti-depressants and benzodiazepines.

They should be an absolute last resort when all other options have been exhausted.

A few months. Not gonna lie, it fucking sucks at first but once it becomes a normal part of your day you will be fucking addicted to it. If you skip a day and don't exercise, you better fucking believe you will notice. It is insane how much better you feel when you work out on a consistent basis (every other day) even if you make no other changes to your life. Rest-day depression is real. Most people quit exercise after a few weeks, so they never get to experience the true benefits of it. Don't be one of these people. Be consistent, be patient, and don't take it too seriously, have some fucking fun while doing it. Like I said, I have been suicidal since age 14 and I have tried everything, this is literally the only thing that works, this and a bit of stoicism, trust me.
