I read around and if your income falls within a certain range you don't pay gains. Wish I could give you a number but I have trouble finding it myself.

Obviously if you made some money off of stocks you have some sort of annual income due to that. But only matters if it's sizable. However stocks aren't considered part of the basic tax return structure like W2's so you'll have to pay extra with turbotax or get a company to do your tax returns.

So obviously you have to consider the cost of that.

Even after investors spent the weekend reading a detailed counter-analysis from a large share-holder on why he believes the requested merger by Walgreens is a horrible deal for long-term investors, the stock still gained by 0.50%.
