do i accept their admission or ignore it

I'd wait a year for the collapse in international students and migration to online classes to force steep, desperate discounts.

I hate to break it to you pal but that is the UC for retards. When they say that something like 60 percent of applicants to the 'University of California' are accepted, its mainly Merced they got into. Even Riverside is a league above it now
Where else did you get in? Were you offered scholarship money?

I wouldn’t do it if I had options for a college in a city more reputable or known. I know that sounds stupid but it matters. State schools aren’t that rebuked by comparison to Merced.

>> No.18175322

>>18175190
It (along with all other UC campuses) are state schools. Depends on what your other options are. In california, I'd say Long Beach State and Cal Poly are "better" than Merced, but again, I don't know your situation fully

Cal Poly at least has location going for it. The area around Morro Bay is beautiful.

UC want you to maintain a decently high GPA, and doing that at a community college is tough when teachers dont care and classes aren't well made

it's not too late to apply to cc... don't accept admission to a school if you wouldn't be happy to take your four years there. if you are just an average student with a 3.0 and a 22 act, then take the offer.

going to a school that you are better than is a bad idea--trying to transfer up later is a horrible idea.

Yes but consider the fact that no one has proven the existence of an afterlife or reincarnation. You're telling me that between choosing the virgin UC Merced and the chad SD State you would voluntarily spend 4 years of your life in Merced just for the letters UC on a piece of paper? Either make a lifestyle choice to attend a subpar school where you can live a little or go to community college and make grades to transfer to a reputable institution.

going to UC Merced because you don't trust community college instructors is weak logic. There are plenty of decent 2 year programs in CA, when I lived in the Bay it was fairly common for academically talented peasants to transfer from Berkeley City College to Cal.

>> No.18176149

I saw your post about California CCs and it's true, but I can say some of the most brilliant people I met in my time at UCLA (undergrad and grad school) were transfers who kicked ass at their local CC. it's a grind but those who maintain the high GPA definitely deserve the transfer to a good UC. it's wayyy cheaper too.

>> No.18176169

did you only apply to merced? I was under the impression that if you applied to all other UC schools you were offered acceptance at merced.

no acceptance? Honestly it's cheaper just to do two years at CC then transfer into a better UC. that said there's something to be said for going to a state school and banging low iq broads while you get your degree.

Accept Merced, work your ass off to do better than all the beaners for a year or two, transfer to UCSD, LA, or Berkeley depending on the field you're in.

lol, ignore it and aim higher. Also, if you aren't going to either UCLA or Berkeley it isn't worth it. At least in terms of UCs

Went to UCSB, loved it, highly recommend. Best thing you can do is do research alongside a professor, seek them out yourself, show initiative and you'll make it.

>> No.18176512

>>18176468
honestly OP, a good community college is worth it. i went straight to a state school, and now i wish i'd done cc. at cc, it's easier to maintain higher grades. you save money, and have more options. also, you figure out what you want to do. most people end up changing majors. at cc its a lot easier to explore, because there's a lot less money on the line.
if your plan is to transfer out of merced, why waste tens of thousands going to merced?

UC to UC transfers are notoriously low acceptance rate. I know one person who went UCSC to UCLA, but she literally did not get anything below an A her entire college career. I think >>18176512 is right, if you plan to transfer out of merced, you might as well just go to a CC initially and save cash

>> No.18176575

>>18175149
Pretty much this. California universities are all in massive debt.

>> No.18176638

all this being said, OP, merced is not a bad school. it is better than the majorities of state schools. it just looks weak compared to the other UCs.
dont be afraid to go to merced, if merced offers programs you're interested in.
DONT go to merced if your only goal is to transfer.

>> No.18176650

>much better quality education
No. It’s undergrad and it’s the first two years of undergrad which is all homogeneous and standardized with the rest of the country. You aren’t even getting real professors at that level, you’re getting adjuncts. Real professors spend their time doing research not teaching your babbys first Diff Eq class.

>> No.18178157

merced is shit go to CC then transfer
>>18175586
this
>>18175809
this guy is retarded.

only downside to CC is no 1-2 year at college for the "dorm experience".

pros are
>higher acceptance rate for UCs
>MUCH cheaper (free if poor) 300$ vs 5,000 (poor)/10,000 per semester.
>potentially easier classes
UCs are required to get CC grads. and the accpetance rate is 10-20x higher than from high school

>> No.18178215

CC's also have Transfer Guarantees if you maintain a high gpa, as opposed to the abysmal rates even at those same gpas for regular transfers.

Unless you're looking to go into a field that needs prestige like business or looking to do a master/PhD/MBA it's in all likelihood fine. Berkeley fine arts degrees will still be as unemployed as University of Phoenix a year after they graduate. If you get an engineering degree and all the requirements to apply for p.ENG in a couple of years you will be fine. What you study matters a whole lot more than where you study for most technical fields. Also if it's your best school you should probably still go. People tend to shake out where they belong
