Like my thought process? I bought XOM and RDS on the oil dip, converted to MGM and CCL and caught that bounce. Swapped to KO for safe haven play mid-week and finished with NFLX. Every single trade was a winning move predicting where demand was going to be, no secret just required some thought before execution. Goal was 5% a day.

This is what the corporate bond shorting ETF I bought in Feb looks like.

Problem is I held some of my oil and international ETFs, so the overall graph still looks like shit. I trippled my hedge but my main investments tanked so it basically stayed flat.

I sold my S&P500 ETFs in November to hoard cash for a crash though, so overall I'm up. Put $2,000 back in two days ago, going to wait for a bigger drop to do more. Got $17k total.

Made a quick 49% on penny stocks but I only risked about $150, so not shit.

>> No.18133662

Can someone clarify what "Sell to close" option means exactly. Are you selling the options life span to someone else? For example, if I bought a 7 day call option of a stock at $150. The stock goes to $160 the next day and I sell to close. Is it sold to someone else as a 6 day call option at $150 until it ends its life?

>> No.18133923

>>18133662
A call is a right to buy 100 shares per contract, a put is a right to sell 100 shares per contract. If you sell to someone with 6 days to expiration they gain the right to buy those shares at that price in 6 days. If it goes below 150 per share the option expires worthless.

Thanks, sometimes it just takes a good sense of timing. At the end of the day it’s mostly bots and algorithms trading, and if you can sense their underlying programming is driving their behaviors you can always be one step ahead. Pic related, I sold NFLX at 367.5.

Like, ok here’s another example. I know Coronavirus is going to force people to be at home. What will people buy? Video games, Netflix subscriptions, etc. I predicted demand would eventually shift this way, and piled into the trade before others. Now that this second-level thinking has an article, the opportunity is gone, as it is now a first-level thought. See how you can’t be spoon fed? You have to develop your second-layer thinking. Think about your thoughts.

>> No.18134171

Ok. So if there's a huge difference between my strike price and the current value of the stock, can it be difficult to sell and close my position? Like if my strike is $150 and the stock is now $200, what would make someone buy my option that is about to expire?

because he can exercise that option, buy the stock at $150 and sell for $200 right away for profit less the margin he pays you

e.g. if he pays you $35 premium for every stock, he earns $200 - $150 - $35 = $15 per stock, $1500 per contract so it is worth it, you get $35 less whatever premium you paid for the option

>> No.18134318

>>18134171
No, again it just gives you a right to exercise the option. If you don’t have cash on hand to purchase the shares then the option still expires worthless unless you sell it to another trader. Thus you would have to either sell the option before expiration or buy the equity upon expiration. Options are like stock insurance and should be treated as such, it also helps enter positions over a longer period if you don’t have immediate cash on hand to purchase.

jokes aside, nice play, though timing is also an important side.

time decay reduces the premium on the option, the longer the time remaining the higher the potential gain/loss

so you would get a higher premium with the option with 2 weeks expiration assuming the trend is in the money, it really depends on what the other party is willing to pay

I’m just trying to help those who don’t have 100k portfolios, $700 a week can help most people greatly and $2k portfolios might be all they have. Resilience and adaptability is more important than intelligence I think. Lots of intelligent people commit suicide after losses like that. I was also 25 years old then, and my pride caused me to not accept reality. Perhaps others can learn from my mistakes, I don’t hold myself in high regard and make lots of mistakes. I’ll always find a way to make it back, even if I fall to 0.
