I think this is the market trying desperately to get back to a "normalcy", but its going to fall apart once the stimulus passes (buying on the rumor, selling on the news, so to speak). Shit is still fucked, people aren't going to go out, and yes the companies might have a bunch of liquidity but if it only took a few months of nobody buying, then we're going to be back here in by the end of May.
I've averaged down my April, June, and July puts, and I've gotten some side money by buying ITM calls as SPY went up. I expect Friday to be green as well (and honestly, expect most days up until the final stimulus package is passed to be green). So I'm holding overnight SPY calls.

When you buy call you buy the right to buy a certain stock at a certain point, for a certain price. Your risk is limited to the amount you put into the option.
-> Time is working against you and makes the call less valuable over time
-> If your Call expires worthless, thats it. Thats all you lose.
-> Your possible gain is infinite. If the stock goes up 5000% then you can retire with a single call.

When you sell a call you give away the right to buy that stock off of you at a certain price at a certain time. You hope for falling prices.
-> Time is working for you, as the call becomes worth less and less to the buyer
-> Your risk is infinite. If the stock goes up 5000% you apply for bankrupty.

Well wait, that isn't necessarily true. Writing calls and purchasing calls is called a credit covered call. It's a useful way of mitigating risk. You only have to pay the difference in the strike price. The same thing works for put.

And if you have covered calls, that is, if you own 100 shares and you think the stock is going to take a shit, then you can write a call without much worry. It's basically free money. Someone might exercise the call right after they buy it, because they hate you or something, but I'm not sure how risky that is.

Sorry, I made it even more confusing for you.
Writing an option means creating an option. Every option you buy was created by some entity and then sold to the market.
Selling an option means selling an option you bought from someone else. (It can also mean writing and selling here sometimes, but lets leave that on the side)

Imagine you bought a BA call for 200$ three days ago. The stock rises to new heights and all is fine and dandy. You sell it for a plus of 700%.

Now think of the person on the other end of that trade. The person who wrote that call and offered it to the market. Some person/institution had to write and sell you that call. And they are the ones on the hook for when it gets exercised.

Now imagine BA rising another 300% and the call going up 2000%. The person who wrote that call now is in deep shit.

>>18112424
>When he said sell a call, what he really meant was WRITE a call.
Correct. In my attempt to make it easier I caused unnecessary confusion.
