Its way quicker to earn money. The DOW just lost 4 years of progress over the span of one month basically. Betting on that is huge money.

But you are betting against everyone. The gouvernment, the banks, the central banks, the world. There are rules to prevent it from dropping, gouvernments forcing comapnies to buy stocks or banning the sale like China.

Going long means betting on the house in a casino. Going short means betting against it.
Betting against the house is only feasible in small windows where one guy figured out the trick and you are waiting for the bouncers to kick him out. That wont take too long either.

Hyperinflation doesn't happen by just printing money. Zimbabwe didn't print 100000x more money than there was in existence the previous day every 24h, for example. It happens when everyone is dumping the currency for various reasons, which sets off a spiral.
For example, all the people holding the dollar as a reserve currency wouldn't be too pleased to see it inflate by even 10-20% in a year, since its main worth to them is as a reserve. They'd trade it for euros or something ASAP. Then the dollar would plummet further, and more people would dump it, and so on.
