Gamestop is going under lol. There's an ex-manager who's entire youtube channel is dedicated to leaking shit going on and the majority of the shit he says comes true. Massive layoffs, store closures, firing experienced managers because of their salary so every store is ran by new people, consolidating multiple districts to a single boomer district manager who doesn't even play games, removing their only reason to buy games (member discount), having gigantic loopholes in their tradeback system allowing people to siphon money from them, etc. This isn't even considering the fact brick stores are being phased out and they have barely any online presence.

It's never coming back. Screencap this for the next time some retard says to buy Gamestop.

the only thing entertainment electronics stores are good for is hardware like consoles, display screens and peripherals like keyboards, controllers, headsets, and stuff
places like BestBuy are going to absorb any useful purpose that would otherwise have remained for Gamestop, which is a shame, because Gamestop used to be one of my favourite places to go as far as going to a store to spend money

Why would anyone bother going to Gamestop when they can buy digital games, or just pirate them?

For physical copies they can order from Amazon/Wal-Mart/Ebay.

And then they can go to a Best Buy/Wal Mart for buying consoles/video games, which can use bulk purchasing power to get things cheaper and sell it to consumers cheaper.
