I used to work as a glazier and one of our common clients was a commie commune. A dozen or so families pooled their money and built a complex with two apartment towers on a lot with a nice court and some green with shit for the kids, very comfy. We installed a bunch of mirrors and glass shower cabins, really nice homes. There was no need for a landlord, running costs like taxes were divided fairly by home space (the apartments were all designed in roughly the same shape, but some minor customisations took place) and whatever else was necessary in terms of maintenance or repairs was voted on in monthly meetings and shit.

At the end of the day, landlords are leeches because they don't do anything that the tennants couldn't do themselves. They say they maintain the place, but do they really? Most landlords just call someone else to do it for them, why can't tennants do that?

I think something I realized over time is that class contradiction will not be resolved and humans naturally form into hierarchies, because all humans are not identical. The assumption that individual humans are interchangeable parts in the social machine, somehow "equivalent" to each other is a flaw in Marxism inherited from Liberalism. Even if we somehow transcend money, into a virtual world, there will be those more adept at maneuvering in that world than others. You can have hierarchies in a system without class. Directly recallable, regularly rotating, term-limited leadership and council member roles. There will probably be a currency of attention even moreso in the future, but moreso the class difference would be caused by a difference in information. Being popular within a system where the means of production are commonly owned doesn't allow you to accumulate power beyond what people choose to give. Information (software/data/journalism) is the agent of value in a society where automation can perform intelligent labor, and information is much easier to spread than physical/financial capital.
