This virus could have easily been stopped worldwide with cheap use of humidification and turning up the heat.

In summer you will look back and notice the seasonality, your next thought should be why we didn't turn up the heat 10 degrees and install humidifiers in public spaces.

Literally don't go outside unless you have to. Buy groceries for a week instead of 3 days. Wash you fucking hands. Holding your hands unter lukewarm water for 5 seconds is not washing your hands. 30 seconds, hot water, soap. Don't touch you face when outside. It really is that simple.

Long options on airline stocks? Cruise ship long options? Is there even that much returns +1000% in those markets with options?

You are a wizard anthony. Break me off some of your magic.

Be a profitable trader for 2-4 years and you can quit your job with ease. But like my old boomer friend, he became such a comfortable trader that he could do it on the side while working his tech job.. securing two incomes while building his long term portfolio on the side. He later quit his job when he turned 45 but kept on trading because it's the best thing he know. But yeah, give it 2-4 years (depending on who you are as a person) and you'll notice yourself if you can quit your job at McDonalds or not

I just looked at /pol/ and got convinced that the coronavirus would be a national disaster if nobody did anything to stop it soon.

Every time I was up, I sold the puts for a profit, looked at the CDC doing nothing and Trump acting like nothing was wrong, and decided that nobody would do anything about it soon so I bought more puts as the spy fell.

There was nothing smart about it, I just believed Trump was going to let things get bad because he seemed like he thought it didn't matter, and put money on that belief. Which turned out to be wrong because he surprised me with a complete turnaround today.

I didn't know what I was doing.

I decided to go 60/40 safe (imo) / risky (imo) on Robinhood with $10k and 60/40 SPXS calls / SPY puts on with $40k on fidelity.

For Robinhood, the "risky" stuff was calls on shit like random water-related utilities, gild, puts on baka, etc. None of it did really well and I think gild rose enough that I broke even maybe.

For all the spy puts and spxs calls on both rh and fidelity, I didn't know what to do, so I tried 60/40 of what I perceived as safe/risky. So 60% ntm, 40% otm, 60% expiring 6-9 months out, 40% expiring 2-3 months out.

Eventually, I noticed that once my ntm puts were in the money, they stopped profiting as much as the otm ones as spy fell. Same, I noticed that I made more money on puts like 2-3 months out, and somehow it seemed like my spxs calls were not doing nearly as well as the otm 2-3 mo puts.

So I changed to only spy puts. 60/40 otm / deeper OTM to see if deep OTM paid more than just otm, and 30/40/30 1/2/3 mo expiry to see if changing expiry helped.

Then I noticed that 3mo seemed best and deep OTM but not so deep that a $5 change in strike price was less then 10c was good for me, since I didn't want to have to do dozens of orders for 200 contracts at like 100*10c each.

Once I settled on deep and 3 mo out, I just kept rolling deeper otm every day spy dumped

I don't know if I'll even have puts in two weeks.

I'm not really a stock market guy, I just got the same feeling predicting the Corona spread that I got when predicting chainlink would take off. Since I couldn't think of any logical reason why it would fail to be a disaster if unchecked, I started looking at our government and figured they would leave it unchecked, so I bet on it.

I guess of one's prediction of other people's behavior is a mistake, even if it's just one person

I fucking hate Trump but today he may have pulled off a masterstroke. Completely surprised me and made a fucking amazing show of it, too.

It's hard to say if it's too late but given how spread out the US is, he may have done it in time for contact tracing and isolation to work everywhere outside the cities, with the cities being able to import necessary life-saving equipment from rural areas that are barely hit. He also said they're ordering a lot more respirators, so the total life-saving surge capacity may well drastically increase so that we avoid being Italy where people die in the hallway even if this does spread more.

It might be too late for them to stop it but I really don't think it is. We'll see in the next couple of weeks but I think for it to be too late we'd need to have been hearing of way more people getting infected in rural areas. We haven't.

This is... not when I would be raising interest rates. There’s never a time when these things seem like a good idea, eventually maybe we’ll get a volker type.

but as long as he doesn’t look down, wil e coyote can keep running on air. Betting against the system rarely ends well, I wouldn’t call a top here.

And like Cramer is saying literally right now, I’m not betting on today’s rally marking the bottom either. Though those midday cheapies we saw... those might be hard to find again. LMT at 305...

You ever wonder what happens when too many people are short the market and something good happens, and then the bigger guys start covering their short positions?

That’s what I call “Jerome printing money” or “literally QE” or “the fed injecting liquidity in the market”, it’s a technical term for when shortsellers want to take profits have to buyback the stock they shorted.

Bought amd? Nice whats your DCA?

No idea why people are obsessed with catching the knives on the airlines and cruises. They’re not particularly good companies, and they’re getting hit hard right now for a good reason.

If you’re a trader I guess it makes sense. But as a long term investment, I’d rather be in things like Pharma, tech, and defense.

I remember in one of those graham books the intro talks about the airlines having been terrible for investors,‘I don’t remember exactly why, but we’re in a 9/11 like environment for the airlines, the fear can stay a lot longer than is rational. And they STILL don’t know if they’ll ever get those Boeing planes they were counting on, and if passengers will be cool with using them.

Don't worry bruv, shit is FUCKED on Monday. There's no way we don't keep tumbling down after the market realizes that this recent conference didn't help anything. People still won't go out, they still won't be buying stuff, they still won't be taking cruises, going to large gatherings, etc. The supply chain is still fucked as well.
