To prevent many US oil producers from going bankrupt.
One of the only reasons why so many oil companies have been able to stay afloat is the cheap money given to them and somewhat manageable oil prices.
Now that the oil price is absolute horseshit, they can't cope with their denbts and are soon in a situation where they'll go bust.
Oil price needs to go back up very quickly or we'll see some major layoffs and bankruptcies happen in the US oil industry, which in turn will just rape the market further and erode people's faith in this house of cards.
Of course this money printing will do fuckall. The bubble has been pricked and we're going down hard.

Privatize gains, socialize losses ... but in such an utterly blind, hubristic and ultimately delusional manner I can barely believe it. I dunno what their "master plan" was to pull their limp little dicks out the mess they've created (my suspicion: alternative hedge market based on CO2 certificate trade, hello Greta!!) but I think it is quite too late for that now. I ALMOST considered donating food to a food bank today.

I have 6 months supply of food for 4 people. Some local food bank said they were unable to send food out as everyone was stockpiling tinned food.

Seeing as I have close to a thousand tins of various food items, I almost considered donating perhaps 10 tins, although when I spoke to the person there he said "40% of our donations go to refugees" and I walked off mid sentence, got back in my car and took the food home with me.

That is the last time I ever consider giving away even a penny to someone I dont know personally

We suffer from similar problem here in Austria though (don't get me started on Germany, "deutsche Wertarbeit" my arse!!) ... built my business model on "headhunting" for disgruntled engineers and know-how bearers, worked fine so far, will stay put now and wait for recuperation I guess. Told ya yesterday we’d be green.
Good thing about America is that we deal with crises the American way. States and local governments should deal with it with minimal federal intervention. Every bigger company I've seen so far is bloated with these ... blame it on "control freak mentality" in the upper tiers, kicks off a vicious cycle as the "overmanaged" employees lose motivation and initiative. Should learn from military here ... Auftragstaktik, it works perfectly if you build your organization correctly. Anyway, a crisis can only be "good" in the long run. The virus is severely under reported in the USA, simply because there is not enough testing kits. You're seeing high ranking members of society being diagnosed because they have the access to the healthcare.

In a population that skews towards the elderly, this is a problem.
