I didn't know anything about strikes or expirations.

I still don't really but I noticed some things.

First, I bought some ITM, just barely otm, and some farther otm (but not particularly deep, maybe 15-25% away from then-current spy price).

I also bought different expiries. Some a couple months out, some 3-4 months out, some 2021.

I noticed that the ones closer to expiration were pumping harder. I noticed the ones deeper otm were pumping harder.

And so I decided to only go for expiries 2-3 months out. And today I decided to only go for deep OTM because those seem to pump harder too.

Hopefully I didn't do something retarded because I honestly don't know what I'm doing.

I was worried about paying for implied volatility that won't be there later so I tried going deeper into the money because if I understand right, their value will increase as they get closer to the money even if implied volatility is lower then.

My guess is the triple leveraged ETFs get fucked by going up and down, having their returns wiped out because you need to grow more than 10% to make up for a 10% decline.

E.g., if you drop 50% from $100 to $50, a 50% gain takes you back up to $75 but not your original $100.

So it's not enough to be right that prices are moving in the right direction when you buy a triple leveraged product. You also have to be right about them moving in that direction consistently, rather than having many ups and downs.
