>work for the government
>defined benefit pension which is inflation adjusted
>annual pension will be 70% of the average of my last 5 years of salary (which is always your highest) and is guaranteed to be $100k+
>will retire at 56 with full pension
>don’t have to worry about saving for retirement like everyone else so I can spend my money without worry

Why don’t you work for the government?

Do you honestly believe that you'll have a government pension in 30 years? The only way to retire is going to be on private savings.

This isn’t a private corporation we’re talking about.

Imagine thinking public pension funds are at the same level of risk as other investment entities.

This is what happens when children discuss finances.

I would want to be I agree it might be hard to pay for them. Unfunded liabilities will be higher than gdp if they aren't already. Picture Puerto Rico on a massive scale.

My mom worked for government. It was lifeless soul sucking work. The coworkers were dumb af and always talking about sucking dick and spending money on drinking and sucking more dick. Then the work is absolutely brainless. Just literally same dumb thing over and over. Either (back then) brainless paperwork and pushing the paper to someone else or paperwork that was for no reason except to keep workers busy. And then of course there was rampant corruption. Government literally just propping up welfare recipients and handing out free money, phones, clothes, food to Iran’s that know how to game the system and pump out more whiglets and don’t even know who the father is, literally giggling when they say “muh no name dayday cuz iono”.

The only bright spot was once you get one you pretty much can’t get fired. And there were a couple millionaires. One woman was a millionaire government employee, and all she ate at work was crackers and invested all her money. She wound up getting breast cancer and double mastectomy. She probably dead now, but she was the millionaire who ate crackers and lived in a van. So basically it’s doable. Just find a person you get along with and should be ok.

There are numerous public pensions that are under consideration for being cut. You don't NEED to, but it won't hurt. It just means more money for yourself. There's also no guarantee you stay at that job forever.

I have an undergrad in economics and had the choice of either working at a big bank or the government for $5k more.

I could either work to make some bank CEO get an even larger bonus than last year or I could use data to detect risks of human trafficking in my community. Pretty easy choice for me.

Same for my director who left the private sector to work in the government, along side many others.

Check with all the other foreign governments whose pensions have failed. The Federal government is very reliable, but states much less so. See>>17377415

Also, there are various ways they can screw you, without going bankrupt. Not defining inflation properly, cutting the pension, getting rid of your job before you retire, firing you for bullshit, et cetera.

Nobody said that, dipshit. Obviously pensions are low-risk. They're also obviously not guaranteed, for various reasons.
