If you go to a restaurant in America you are enjoying the service of someone working in a tipping culture. They are working at 200% because the tips. You can't undo it. Tipping heralds back to a time before no fault divorce and alimony, where single mothers, widows, ect. had a place made for them by society to support their children or their own living requirements in old age.

I worked as a line lead in a number of different restaurants over the years before changed careers. A line cook who busts his ass and knows what he's doing can possibly make $20/hr these days, when i was working it maxed out at $13. Its a skilled trade that requires exacting quality and you cant expect more than 36k per year, and forget about benefits sick days ect. The waitresses were making anywhere from 45k to start, all the way up to 80k in tips, and they had minimum wage. I never recieved tips, from the wait staff, and the one time i worked a place that required them to share with us, they only shared the credit card tips that had to be declared.

As someone from the industry i have no sympathy for these roastie whores. Their job is meaningless and overpaid, and it is a holdover from a time when women needed a little extra help unlike today. Fuck tipping and fuck waitresses.

What does "doing a good job" as a waiter mean? You write down the order. You put the order in the system. The system prints a ticket in the kitchen and the kitchen staff makes it and plates it. Then they yell out the window to tell you to come pick it up. Then you put it on the table for the customer. As someone else pointed out, more and more people are eating out instead of making food at home. So the restaurant industry is going to see more demand, not less. However, you are probably right in that traditional restaurants are probably going to decline.

People are more lonely than ever, they are not going to go to restaurants regularly in parties and want a waiter serve (and judge) them; they would want fast food, served fast and to be left alone. There are three ways of doing this: first is fast food restaurants such as McDonalds. McDs is going to do great in my eyes, because they have spent years telling people they are more than just a burger place now, you can now quickly get a range of food that will appeal to many people. You generally don't tip in these places. The second way is takeouts delivered to your home such as by ubereats or a company's own delivery service. You generally do have to tip the driver if you don't want spit in your next order. The final way is something that is fairly common in Asia but I've still to see in the West, automated service restaurants where you order your food on a screen and the food is delivered to your table by a robot or a track. A plus with this system is you won't have to interact with any human and noone to tip.

You can obviously invest in the likes of McD and uber, I don't know of any restaurant automation company to invest in yet.

I do all the work of selecting from a menu. I look at it myself and read the words. I think about what sounds like it would be the best option. I then have to sit and wait for some period of time. Once food finally arrives I have to pick up the fork, use said fork to bring the food to my mouth, chew the food, swallow, and even digest it. After that I have to take a shit. I even have to wipe my own ass after that. The wait staff do nothing but bring the food to me and interrupt my meal to ask 'is everything ok' every five fucking minutes. They are handsomely compensated at their desired wage which they negotiated for during their job interview AND they get a raise each year. Why the fuck should I pay extra when they don't even do anything of value or contribute to my meal or evening in even the least significant way? I'd leave a negative tip if I could about half the time. Maybe they should get a real job or stand on the streets begging with a sign if they are really in such dire straits.

Here in the UK, made about £100 a week working part time but had a proper wage.
Personally I don't care if people tip or not. I did try my best to offer a great experience, thats my fuckin job. the female waitress where the worst though, they expected a tip!
