Employers have been forbidden from using IQ tests and degrees are a good enough correlate. University courses are useless if you take them for their stated purpose, but have immense value as a status symbol. They are shit at teaching but pretty good at picking the people who can teach themselves best.

because everyone these days goes to college they will not settle for someone who doesnt have a college degree, but thats for easier jobs, like retail. If you go to work on a factory or something and start when you are 18 they wont ask for a degree obviously. but college isnt always a scam, if you want to be a wagie, medicine, law, nursing, engineering, computer science, accounting are all good degrees

This. I got a STEM degree and made 85k out of college in a small town. Only 30-40k debt.

As I gain more experience, I qualify for even higher positions. My company keeps paying for more of my education which makes my job even more secure. STEM is worth it 100%.
