IT isn't all that much better, yo. You still deal with people's bullshit, just with tech instead of money. You surround yourself with bros, it's cool in either industry. But both have the potential to land you in a circle of mind virused SJW's and soitoys. Don't suffer from grass is greener syndrome. It's about the people you surround yourself with.

Nowadays the FAA does what's called open season and you take a 7-8 hour electronic aptitude test.
If you do well on that, they send you to OKC and you do 3-4 months (per deim and min wage) of school. It's pass/fail so if you fail you're done.
After that, you're sent to an ATC facility (tower/tracon/center) and you're trained on the job by other controllers. At this time you're making about 50-60k/year depending on where you go. You get step increases as you certify on different positions in the facility.
Finally, you certify and you're moved to the bottom of the payband where you're working.

So the process takes about 2-4 years depending on how long it takes to get hired, where you go after OKC, and your own attitude toward training. Till you're certified you can be terminated for any reason during your first year (probation) but after that you're somewhat safe from firing.

https://www.stuckmic.com/ is a good resource.

I make 160k+ cause I work in a high level tracon and have been in the agency for over 10 years. My base is less than that but holidays and night/sunday/holiday/ot differentials all add up nicely.

Im pretty sure the "happy" ones were the Boomer Blue collar workers you saw, because their wage is nearly 2.4 x Times in Net than mine even if they are not married they get that 2.4x times more net than me. Most Blue collar Boomer krauts have old contracts with benefits i never heard in my entire life.
They got things like staying in the company money, christmas benefits 2 times higher than mine, appearing on the job benefits (appearance money (yes i know it sounds ridiculous) and so on and on...

Most young Blue Collar Krauts are on the edge of killing themselves because most of their earnings go right in the pocket of the Landlord/Rentlord because germans love to rent appartments and rather not buy property..
The wages here also dont rise so much than abroad and Merkel and her staff is lying around about Inflation which is most times 2 times higher than the presented one.....
