Obvious newfag, on the run up to $50 in 2011 people were buying silver sometimes at a 100% premium because online retailers were sold out and FOMO was setting in. I personally sold several 20 ounce tubes of generics for $1100-$1400 on ebay. The auctions were insane and people were bidding it up like crazy.

They stand to gain a lot from the VATs and long term capital gains taxes. It's already in the books. At that point silver becomes a commodity that takes time to save up for.

Look at it this way: gold is <$1500/oz which means it is greater in value than the current dollar:silver ratio and the government is not confiscating it. Look at rhodium which is <$9K right now which is close to the current dollar:gold ratio and the government is not scrambling to seize it.

In my case I have a good enough relationship with my coin shop that I can trade the spot value of my silver in (even get a small premium for coins like ASEs and Maples) and they take that off purchases I might make that day. Depends on the shop but they often buy in bulk and thus they often sell at competitive premiums to many online dealers. Look up online deals and figure out the premiums (price per ounce minus the spot price per ounce) and then call up your local coin shops if you have any and ask for the same products.

Always remember a few things about coin shops:

1) They might offer low prices but they might also lowball you if you sell to them. Make anonymous phone calls to ask what they might buy your ASEs (or any other products you might have) for. Compare to their prices that they sell at and then compare to what you can buy online.

2) Keep in mind that some of the silver they sell they bought and probably in bulk for the lower premium so that they can make their money back. Also keep in mind that they might have bought so much silver at a different spot price than it is today.

3) They are a business. They have to put food on their tables too. Don't rush to think they are ripping you off. It is simply your right as a customer to take your business elsewhere if you do not like their offer.

I do disagree with buying silver/gold above 5% of your total networth/investment. So If you have a 500k in net worth only 5k should be in precious metals.

Precious metal investment makes total sense in third world, inflation runs wild, your currency fluctuates a lot, therefore investing in precious metal where inflation moves between %10-%30 even %40 is worthwhile. But I dobut many of you live in Argentina or in Iran or in Turkey.
I really believe there is no reason to invest big in metals where inflation is 1-5%. I doubt anyone disagrees with this, which is why imho most silver sellers talk about collapse/walking dead/usa going bankrupt fear scenarios.

Not saying It can't happen, I mean an extremely powerful, mighty nation you might know, advanced in science in military, in arts literally collapsed in early 90s. In a walking dead enviroment I rather have coffee then metal. And if you think your western 1st world country with 1-5% inflation will become Argentina or Turkey in next 5-10 years I really really want to listen to your reasoning.

One exception I will give is to buy low sell high meme, yeah if you believe there will be a financial crash next year and want to make a profit in short term that is a probable cause, but that would be more short term trading rather than long term investment to me.

I am poor and new so don't really listen to me but within the last year I've put USD into stocks, crypto, silver, and guns/ammo. Girlfriend and I will get a house soon. I suppose my "main" investments are stocks because I'm having trouble breaking the conditioning but I also put money into crypto and silver. I've been trying to stop spending so much money on entertainment (betting, bars, going out as much) and instead take the money I'd use doing those things and instead buy some silver or crypto (depends if either is in a dip) with money I'd have instead pissed away on booze or something.

I don't know, I'm a fucking idiot and just listen to anons on /biz/ for tips, look into the tips, and they seem sound. If everything fails and I lose everything I don't care anyway because modern society is fucking gay and I'd rather take a chance by buying unconventional (for normie standards) assets like crypto and PMs than miss a moon mission because I was too busg following the herd stuffing my 401k for when I'm 60 years old except I die at 58.

I have been buying a lot of silver because of these threads and I am in the Baltics but even here I seriously doubt that some sort of major collapse will happen and I do wonder whether the portion of silver that I own is a bit too high.

It's fun to collect, but what use is it in a normal financial scenario?

I am pretty sure there is silver left in the ground for mining so it's not exctly gonna explode is it? What are anons talking about when they talk about "making it" with silver?

And why don't anons with massive silver stacks ever convert to gold instead? I thought the end goal is pretty much always owning gold and silver is only bought because poorfags cant buy into the metals market otherwise?

Then how come people with income from labor can still afford real estate (If it performs so well since way back)?
There must have been some decades were real estate did not perform very well.
I read in some journal that in 19th century US there were plenty of violent boom and bust(!) cycles for real estate.

I am relatively new myself. I own less than 50oz so I am a poorfag, but relative to my other savings, silver is quite a big chunk. Silver is actually the only investment I have made, rest of my money is cash, waiting to be put into real estate or maybe into my own business, will see. Also, regarding you asset composition, if you really want to store wealth precious metals is where you go to.
Physical cash and bank deposits lose to inflation, basic savings accounts with the government or banks lose to inflation, bonds have no yields right now, stocks may crash (there are the dividends, yes, but you don't want to start receiving dividends right now, that only comes later, so you might want an etf that automatically reinvests your dividends), real state is at all times high again, so the place where you can store really wealth is precious metals.

Thanks for answering. Do many people in the baltics have PMs? Here in burgerland I get laughed at by people when I say I buy physical silver. "Dude why would you waste money on that?" This is usually said over some overpriced pints at food at a mediocre bar. I don't know if they think I'm dumping thousands a month into it or what. Some say precious metals are worthless but are leveraged on brand name luxury cars, brand name clothes, latest gadgets, etc. Even when I say I also have money in stocks and crypto (crypto gets laughed at for the most part too because most don't know anything about it beyond 2017 pump or something simple. I still meet people who haven't heard of BTC)

It's a good sign that people are laughing anon, most people have no financial sense and no savings, whether in metals or otherwise. Not many people here that I know of buy any metals. My own family also questions buying metal, they just save their fiat.

To the other anon who responded to me then yes agreed 100% my own cash is sitting around but needs to find a home soon in some kind of investment.

We have in Germany 19% VAT on silver.
Only silver coins from non-eu-states have lower taxes thanks to the "Differenzbesteuerung".
Heck we even have so called coin bars to avoid the VAT.Just google after "münzbarren" for images.
