aroon is a pretty common indicator actually, so i have. also you should really be using the aroon up and down (the oscillator just gives you one line which is the difference between the up and down), it does more things than the oscillator.

it basically just tells you when you're forming new highs or new lows over a period of time. you didn't redpill me on bollinger bands yet which leads me to believe you don't know wtf you're talking about unfortunately, oh well was worth a shot to see if you'd tell me anything new.

im gonna back you up on everything except trading penny stocks (lowest i day trade is around $10, i usually prefer midcaps), but i'll give you a chance to redpill me on that shit. if you could actually explain your successful consistent strategy with penny stocks i'd really appreciate it.

obviously there is a lot of money to be made on "spikes", but they're also extremely unpredictable and you can lose a lot at the same time. im way WAY more consistent when stocks just quietly trend or range because that's why moving averages and indicators actually work, and i just scalp that shit on a tick chart over and over again. are you just getting lucky or do you have some method to the madness? the market can only trend, range, or spike, so it would be cool to be able to make money on all 3 instead of 2/3 like i do now. i make a consistent income so im interested in doing more high risk high reward plays potentially, originally i was thinking of putting a little money in several different penny stocks that i researched and felt had a good shot of going to the moon, betting on at least 1 making it successfully which would far outweigh the losses from the others.

one of the main reasons why despite religiously watching/reading all of NNFX's stuff i trade stocks and not forex, is because forex doesn't have supply/demand and the banks artificially move price. meanwhile stocks have intrinsic value and actual people move the price, even the algos that tutes use are coded by people to react to how people will react to what's happening. psychology plays a major role in where price goes and because human behavior is predictable in many ways, it makes price behavior predictable too.

i look at the market as a force of nature, like a flowing river or a tornado. it's natural unlike forex's artificiality imho.

>>16768617
the best way for you to figure stuff out in trading is to backtest the shit out of things and then forward test them in paper (basically real trading with fake money, but you can't see the future). if you want to get deep into buy the rumor sell the news, you should look at as many past events involved with this phenomenon and look for patterns that show up over and over, then try to exploit those in the present, and if it works often enough exploit them to make yourself wealthy. that's the game.

so the answer is yes but the only way you're REALLY going to know isn't from me telling you, it's from you looking at charts&charts&charts&charts&charts&charts&charts&charts. lucky for me i fucking love looking at charts, trying to predict the future movement of price is a fun game, always asking why you think it's going up or going down or "idk i wouldn't enter a trade here yet, i'd be looking for X or Y to happen first", and then looking at where you're correct and where you're incorrect and pondering why.

go through any old chart and start from the first candle of the day and think of what trades you'd make, go candle by candle. it's a fun game.

How do you recommend one goes about selecting time ranges over which to backtest? I feel like I'd need to be able to test over significant events, without knowing the results beforehand, like a blind run against real historical data. But how would I do that?

>>16768704
you look at historical data to discover the underlying patterns which repeat themselves over and over, and then do fundamental analysis to figure out why (look up news on the company around that time, like they released a new product or passed some FDA trial or the UAW went on strike).

then you just try doing that in paper trading. the question is whether you can do it consistently enough to be profitable in the long run, anyone can get lucky once or twice. if you can pull it off consistently in paper, where you can't see the future, THAT is when you can start using real money (start with small amounts then gradually increase as long as you remain successful/consistent).

yes, exactly. with day trading it's easier than longer term trades because you can just pick a random day on a random stock that fits your criteria (this is what stock scanners like finviz are for) and go through the day candle by candle on whatever intraday time frame you want to practice.

it's all patterns. you can't literally predict the future, you're just looking for what are called "high probability setups". "when a stock is under these conditions, there is a higher (hopefully much higher) chance of this happening instead of that" basically. like when you see some pattern it often means the stock is going to go up some amount from there. you also have to determine what your risk is (where you cut your losses when you're wrong, no matter how high the probability) and where you're going to exit the trade in profit.

i'll mention this too: there are a lot, a LOT, of "self fulfilling prophecies" in the stock market. support/resistance lines aren't magic lines, they work because everyone thinks they work. everyone is looking at those pivot points, and they think everyone else is looking at them too, which is why you'll so often see nearly perfect (sometimes completely perfect) lines at prices on charts where price seemingly can't go beyond for a while. same with macd or rsi, which should be on the default settings because again, it's what everyone else is using. herd mentality. it's why these patterns can even exist in the first place, because the market isn't random, it's just psychology at its core. it's why mark douglass says "people don't trade markets, they trade their beliefs in markets"

a better question is taking a deeper look at why anon exited for the 20% gain. it's not about whether he made profit or not but what his trading plan is and what his reasoning for exiting the trade at that point was. what matters is how good that reasoning is and if it can be improved. hint: scaling out is a thing.

Yes that's usually how it starts, before you know it you will be a namefag shilling a penny stock in hope of it blasting off one day. I don't have the numbers, but I can guarantee you that the amount of people pretending to know what the fuck they are doing with penny stocks are 99.99% of the times failures a few months in. The most recent mass combined failure we saw was in 2018 when crypto altcoins pumped hundreds if not thousands of percentages in a few days. People thought they could FOMO in and end up being profitable forever, some time went by and boom, putting money into something a little too late and the stock (or in this case crypto) dumps by 40%+.
Seriously, what you're describing is the most stupid bullshit I always hear from people that just begun "trading". Some wipe their accounts clean instantly, some luck out and makes a nice profit but in the end they all end up scrubbing dirty high school floors at night for a minimum pay. Trust me, it will happen to you and remember me telling you this for the fun of it.

real talk though, you can figure out pretty much everything indicators would tell you by just looking at a naked chart with only price and volume over time. indicators just make it easier to see. like the aroon tells you when you're making new highs or new lows over a period of time, but you can just literally look at a chart and see when new highs or lows are being made. you can see if volume is high or low by just looking at the literal volume.

MA's are the answer though, try the hull MA some time it's good shit.

The same goes for the majority of penny stocks though, kek'd. One single whale with a few millions (some times a few hundreds of thousands) could make your position in a penny stock go to negative in an heartbeat, the exact same thing that could happen to an altcoin. You're correct about crypto basically being useless though, but that doesn't mean a thing like bitcoin doesn't have any value. It being speculative is the beauty of bitcoin for people putting money into it and it's clearly not going away because there's tens of billions being traded with bitcoin daily. Bitcoin is pretty much a 24/7 money printer for people with enough knowledge of how to actually trade and there's no way they would let such a beautiful thing go away. There's a reason it's so wide-spread now amongst banks aswell, it's so fucking easy to make money from bitcoin if you have an average knowledge of how to trade and I've even been told this buy a guy working at Citi.
In the entire crypto market as of today, the only things worth anything is Bitcoin (obviously), Ethereum (because rich people trading bitcoin uses it as an hedge to bitcoin when the market enters a downtrend), XRP (where the big boys goes to withdraw their money) and Monero (because it's untrackable). The rest are useless.

Support and resistance is a loosely defined thing more or less placed at previous spots in the chart where it traded sideways for a while. Or spots where candles extended up to and stopped, or extended down to and bounced. It's a pretty simple concept and there are lots of youtube videos explaining. Start here:
https://www.investopedia.com/trading/support-and-resistance-basics/

Keep in mind any given stocks adherence to these levels is variable. Breaking above or below is generally indicative of strong trend in whatever direction the chart is moving. Be cautious about using this concept on commodities as it doesn't work as well on those as it does on individual companies. Don't use these levels at all in forex.

really wish you guys would stop giving me this penny stock shit and give me a real stock instead, but here you go. it's basically marking off relevant lows and highs, like you're kind of making a rectangle around the price in a range. the more obvious of a "floor" or "roof" there is, the better. round numbers are psychologically relevant (people like to buy at $10 not $10.17. people want $10, then $10.5, then $10.X, then $10.X5 in order of importance).

notice how the current candle matches up suspiciously well with that recent high to the left that sticks out like a sore thumb? it's because everyone and their mother can see that. notice also how it tops out juuuuust under 0.9? wouldn't be surprised at all to see it retest that area eventually, and probably sell off at least a bit after a huge rejection to the upside like that (huge top wick). in the near term around 0.9 is probably the best you can hope to get, but it's a penny stock and i know fuck-all about the fundamentals of the company so who knows what it'll do. you just want to keep relevant highs and lows that stick out to your eye in mind and watch what price is doing around those levels, know what i mean?

There’s a lot more than this I took in I’m not going to type the recap of the content but that’s just something unbelievable. My methodology needed this and it has opened my mind up. All those hours in studying and studying was just to get me to understand an outline of the market but there is so much more. I’ve seriously rewatched twice already and will be coming back to them.

I'm really struggling to understand Tesla's rise recently. That being said I don't think there's anyway to predict a pullback, one day we're going to wake up in the morning and people will have come to their senses and the stock will be down 10-15% pre-market. Who knows how long Tesla will stay delusional though. I think this might be the last time though since Rivian is gaining traction, and when Tesla only has a meme man, and another competitor is actually running like a proper company investors will lose confidence.

apple is closer to competing with tesla than any trad car company is.

1. You have to blow up the dealership model. How close is any trad car company to ending dealership relationships 100?

2. You have to transition 100% to EV

3. You have to do fully OTA upgraded cars with autonomous focus from day 1.

Traditional car companies are so fucking far behind.

On dealerships: Look up how they make money, look up what they think of EVs and how they sell them, etc and realize their average cut of cost.

Just not having dealerships gives tesla a crazy lead.

I like Tesla and the meme man himself a lot. They've got a first move advantage at the moment but I don't think they'll be able to keep said advantage for long. Established car companies are closely monitoring their moves, successes and fuck ups alike, and since they already have the infrastructure, they can simply rearrange a few things and implement mass scale productions. For example, the Fiat Chrysler Peugeot merger that occurred recently is going to change the EV landscape in Europe. It might not sound or look as sexy as the Tesla festivities going on in China at the moment, but the cold killer instinct for survival that giant cap multinationals have is nothing to scoff at.

How do all existing ICE companies transition to being a dealerless EV only company with autonomous driving focus? And if they saw that future and wanted to be in the space they would have done it a year ago.

That's the thing. We are past that point already. The competition began a year ago and Tesla has how many autonomous-ready OTA update EV on the road vs them?

Tesla's direct sales monopoly in select states:

Tesla opened its first and only Colorado store in Boulder in 2009. A 2010 revision to the state dealership law removed the word "franchised". This closed the loophole that Tesla had used to open a direct dealership but grandfathered in the existing single store

A deal reached between Tesla and the Ohio Automobile Dealers Association in March 2014 allowed Tesla to have three stores but blocks all other auto manufacturers

In 2014, New York banned direct sales but grandfathered in five Tesla stores.

In 2013, New Hampshire passed legislation to allow auto manufacturers with no existing franchise dealer in the state to engage in direct sales.

A 2014 Washington state law outlawed direct sales but grandfathered in Tesla.

Indiana, The Roads and Transportation committee approved a modification that grandfathered Tesla, but maintained the ban on all new direct sales by other automakers

In December 2017, Tesla was granted a license by the state of Rhode Island after DMV lawyers concluded that the law blocking direct auto sales only applied to manufactures that have franchise dealers

My fear comes from, look what happened when the big Bois came to finally play Apple and Disney. Netflix plummeted now everybody and their brother is jumping in on streaming. We will see but I’m anticipating, even though they are different sectors, a pattern event with Tesla like Netflix, off of the same circumstances that happens with big boi big dick companies coming to play with their product in the EV market following everyone one else and their brother. ....excuse my shitty structure and composition of English I’m running my hours long and posting off this damn autoincorrecting phone

Nokia entering the 5g development arena is good news, they have the resources and proper connections to make huge profits there. The whole of 5g business is blowing up right now, I've missed a couple investing opportunities on stonks that gave insane (over 80% in less than a year) profits, like SWKS due to to being too much of a pussy. It's still a risky bet due to legislation not being completely in place yet, but DYOR. I'd be willing to put some cash into nokia, but I don't want to be hodling for 2 years right now. I typed a response but lost it in a reload, will retype in a bit.

you have a LOT of stocks there, some that are clearly /smg/ memes, but wayyyyy too many to keep track on.

Some are Cramer faves kek I only know because I watch and like his commentary he’s made and lost me a few bucks, but actually helps me feel like I’m understanding better as I keep at it.

then there's the pressure (at least in the EU) from USA to choose other suppliers of 5G than Huawei

I have mixed feelings on this buy, I am contracted to work with this oil company. I am in a fairly good position work wise being in the most secure area of the business. The stocks are cheap, under 7 dollars with a dividend near 18%. Would it be bad to buy it up? If it goes under I’m screwed anyways and chances are I will be payed off before that.

I don’t totally understand, but long term:
Diversification is more than just a meme.

Except for special deals like compensation through stock options and employee equity plans, you shouldn’t be buying more stock of any company that would fuck you over if it went under.

If I worked for Ford I wouldn’t go out and buy their shares. I’d rather have McDonald’s or something because if the automarket collapses of Ford goes under, my investments and my job are shot.

But if Ford offers me shares at half price or something, that’s a different story. Same logic applies though, I’d want to be careful but definitely take advantage depending on how optimistic I am about the company’s future.

Also, what do the squares mean?

Do you know anything about these companies? Can you tell me the theses behind them?

If you got into NLTX before their vaccine was approved, congrats that’s awesome. I wish I’d looked into who Merck’s partner was and who’d benefit the most.

Curious about BLUE because of their partnership with BMY, and they could be presenting good things next week.

REGN and BMRN have had a lot of good buzz from what I’ve seen. If they dip I’ll probably buy, though I don’t have enough details.

Looks like MRK will be heading down tomorrow, I may have to take some profits as I think it’ll last a few days before it comes in and I can buy the dip. I’ll buy more LLY if we’re lucky to see a dip. And will buy more LHX and LMT if they stop soaring.

I'd argue that in forex you want to be on the same side as the banks. Meme TA will get you whacked.

The conspiratard in me wants to believe that banks shill TA and gurus that teach TA to make idiots confident enough in their abilities so that they can then take their money when they play the markets.

Take a look at any currency pair chart on the daily time frame (1day candles) and you will see. There is a ton of noise with lots of long wick fake outs up and down. If you were to trade off any of those fake moves, even if the move crossed a seemingly previously consistent support or resistance line, you would have lost money.

Milk is slowing but that’s not what fucked companies like deans as much as it is that Walmart and other stores just started using their own dairies and cutting out the middle man. DF let themselves become obsolete and they were shut out.

I should really find some data on how KO's Fairlife milk is doing, seems wildly more popular than any other brand at my local grocery. I think a lot of people are turned off by the low-class looking image DF projected onto their products, while not actually making them significantly cheaper than other more premium looking offerings.
I have a personal theory that people are turned off by milk's biological source these days, societal norms have trended towards sterility and I think many perceive cow milk (yuck, a smelly animal!) in an old plastic jug as somehow less "clean" than something like trendy opaque-packaged almond milk. Look at soft drinks, everyone's drinking lacroix over sticky, low-class, "dirty" soda.
