Cost of living is relatively high. Food is high quality in general but also expensive (beef €40/kg, chicken €10/kg)

It is true, with the "Mehrwertsteuer" and all the other hidden taxes you pay 60-70% of your income to the state.
My basic taxrate is 42% alone, add an additional 19% VAT (Mehrwertsteuer) to nearly everything I buy and you will scratch the 60% very easily. But thats not all, shit like gas is much more taxed than your averange grocceries.

Own an S corp....20% tax write off now. Have 4 kids, can now take full child tax credit on all of them, tax bill reduced 8k right there. Higher standard deduction. Kids go to summer camp, child care tax credit knocks I think 2k off. Max out contributions to IRA (one in my name, one in my wifes name, one SEP-IRA total of 18k/yr in lower taxable income).

The US tax system is very easy to game legally.
