Optional privacy mean if there's an inflation bug, it gets caught. If someone found a bug in Monero which let them print XMR, you would not know unless they were stupid and dumped a lot at once. If Bitcoin could have an inflation bug in 2018, it could happen to literally anyone. And Zcash is a fork of BTC and has the same emission schedule. It's like BTC with _good_ privacy, for $28.
